College names that do not quite fit the college

Or should it be “Penn State-Related University” since posters from Pennsylvania sometimes make the distinction that PSU and other CSHE schools are state-related rather than actual state universities like the PASSHE schools?

Either way, University of Southern California like Northwestern…is a “Directional School”

Except that Wake Forest College was actually in the town of Wake Forest. Moved to Winston-Salem in 1956.

In Canada Waterloo Lutheran University changed its name to Wilfred Laurier University when it was secularized. They had no particular affection for Wilfred Laurier, a former Prime Minister, but the school’s initials would stay the same.

Northwestern isn’t really in the Northwestern US…but I do get that at one time that area of the country was considered the “Northwest.” Kind of like how Northwest Airlines was based in the midwest…

California State University-Channel Islands is not actually on the Channel Islands…

I have walked around Purdue several times and never seen a chicken.
