Colleges with best/worst names

Some colleges definitely have better sounding names than others. I do not mean name recognition, just simply how the name sounds. For example i you were to say "I graduated from (insert college's name)".

Worst: Rice, Tufts
Best: Vanderbilt, Yale

This may be silly but i just thought i would share, any other opinions are welcomed.

Lol I know many people dont like Brown--the name is peculiar. Does anyone know the history behind it?

Best: Vanderbilt(I am going there), Harvard, Yale, Duke, Emory
Worst: Villanova, Tufts

Worst: Ball State

i always thought Tufts and Yale sounded peculiar...
of course, Duke, Vanderbilt and Stanford are all kinda retarded, who names a university after themself? Actually, Stanford is double-retarded, as the actual name of the University is Leland Stanford Jr. University... leland knew it was dumb to name a university after himself, so he named it after his dead son, who, suprisingly, had the same last name.

so the best would go to Chicago, because rockafeller built it and wasnt troubled enough with his manhood to name it after himself.

Of course, my school, northwestern, is kind of a dumb name, since its not in the northwest anymore....

worst goes to Johns Hopkins... whats with all the esses? (i know whats with them, i dont need to hear the story, but come on!)

Princeton is a pretty good name.

Colgate kind of sucks, now that it's associated with toothpaste.

Worst: Brown, Tufts, Northwestern, Ball State, Colgate, Purdue

Brown was named for a Mr. Brown. Beaver College recently changed their name to Arcadia.

The George Washington University
Washington University in St. Louis
University of Washington
Washington and Lee University

I duno...my opinion
Best names: UCLA, NYU..i duno..sounds cool
worst: I duno why but Colgate....

not to mention that tuft's mascot is a "jumbo", aka an elephant. a great school but "i'm a Tufts Jumbo" sounds a little funny

Best: Vanderbilt
Worst: Bob Jones

What UCLA, NYU??? Those are acronyms, they don't really count, but if they did Uva is def. the best!

Duke and Brown are terrible names.
Vanderbilt sounds ridiculously preppy as does Princeton.
Wharton just sounds funny.

hehe..i've never really thought about this...

Those names aren't acronyms (neither is HYPMS) because they don't spell another world.

i've always thought princeton was the coolest name

i also like dartmouth a lot (they both sound really cool)

Sounds cool: dartmouth
Bad:Gonzaga Adolphus, Harvey Mudd (Harvey?!), kalamazoo, kenyon.

Bad: Oral Roberts University :(

waterloo....

Gonzaga Adolphus>>

LOL! Do you mean Gustavos Adolphus or Gonzaga U or both?

My vote for worst name, however, has to go to Shorter College...Makes me think of classrooms full of midgets every time I see it. :)
