How's College Nine like? Are the people interesting? Cute? Is this college looked down on because it's new? What is the demografic? How far is it from everywhere else? Is this too many questions?lol Thanks in advance.

oh, im majoring in linguistics, so would this be a good place for me?

I am affiliated with college nine and am an entering sophomore next year.

Overall, its alright. I don’t think it is looked down upon because it is new. That was always the rising positive in my opinion. My friends in other colleges were a little jealous of my room size because college nine rooms are bigger than average dorm rooms.

I think college nine food is probably the best on campus. I am not extremely fond of the campus food but C9 seems to always serve food and it is always open, which is nice for people who have odd hours like me.

Demographically, I don’t see it much different than the rest of UCSC. C9 is mostly white/asian.

It’s location is the best of all the colleges imo because you are right above the book store and you are placed right in the middle of the campus so you are relatively close to all of your classes.

It really doesn’t matter what you major in. Everyone seems to have a different major. Just because Stevenson might be the designated college for linguistics (I don’t even know if that is true), you will have most if not all of your classes elsewhere (closer to college nine).

Are the people interesting? Well, that is for you to find out.

The C9 Dining hall is open until midnight six days a week which is a nice touch (as opposed to 7pm for some others… too early) and has a decent selection of foods. Also, I cannot speak of the true statistics, but this year 9/10 seems to have a noticeable prevalence of Asians (not that that’s bad). Its a decent location and super close to the two Social Sciences buildings, including a great computer lab that’s huge and empty much of the time. The rooms are definitely some of if not the largest on campus. I would say 9/10 dorms are the most like your typical college dorms at any other school, and there seemed to be a fair amount of partying there, but that’s from a limited perspective. You also have a cool little place to hang out / play pool at every night near the dining hall. …and no, the college is not looked down upon.

The location of the department (i.e. Ling@Stevenson) does not matter at all… even a little bit.
