Greetings! Just accepted into Lehigh and was wondering if classes within the Arts and Sciences college are smaller than in other colleges within the university. Specifically curious about the Art, Arch, and Design department.
Also is there a generally different vibe (i.e. not so greek, party-oriented, money-oriented) in this college and or department compared to business/finance/ etc?
I am personally not a student at Lehigh but my older brother is a sophomore there studying Civil Engineering. I was admitted to the college of arts and sciences and hope to study architecture but am still deciding between a few schools.
My brother is sort of in a frat and finds greek life and parties to be a somewhat substantial part of his life at Lehigh. His frat was kicked off campus after a few (not serious) issues but him and his frat brothers still act like their frat is legit. Lehigh is increasingly getting strict about greek life and it almost seems like they are trying to slowly eliminate it from campus. He parties a lot but also works very hard academically and maintains decent grades. The school seems to have a “work hard party hard” attitude.
After talking to one of his friends, a girl who chose not to rush, I was given the advice that “Boys must rush and join a frat to have a normal social life but girls don’t have to”. She started to rush, went to one party, and realized very quickly it wasn’t what she was looking for. She still parties about once a week and has a very vibrant social life even though she isn’t in a sorority.
I don’t know how the vibes are between the colleges but I would assume they all have a collective vibe of work hard party hard. My brother has friends through greek life whose majors range from political science to architecture.
I am looking into the class sizes of the Arts and Sciences college too because I am worried classes might be bigger than I want (based on information about Lehigh collectively). My brother says that he has math classes with over a hundred students but then also has labs with under 20. I would assume that as a student of the Arts and Sciences, they too would be in the larger “intro” classes or classes that have to be taken as distribution/graduation requirements. However according to some websites there are about 25 students per graduating class that major in Architecture. So if you think about that, I would predict pretty small classes.
It seems like with all colleges, as your classes get more advance and specific to your major, the classes get smaller and more intimate.
I hope you find this helpful! I’m still figuring things out myself hahah
