College of General Studies

Hey guys, I’m new here, and I just had a question. I got accepted to CGS at BU, and I was sort of unsettled by the fact that I heard that it’s called Crayons, Glue, and Scissors on the BU campus. I was wondering if there is any truth to that and if anyone could share any insight into CGS, I’m sort of dissappointed, because I feel like BU is saying that they don’t really think I can handle a four year college yet. And does anyone know if you can transfer out of CGS after just one year?

Thanks,

Well, this question has been asked before. I suggest you use the forum search feature once it returns for more information.

I've never heard of "Cragons, Glue, and Scissors", but that attitude is common on campus. As you know, CGS is a transitional program. Many mainstream students feel superior because of this. In truth, however, CGS students who transfer after their second year perform just as well as their mainstreamed peers. So, while they may start out with unequal statistics and credentials, those that make it through junior year are absolutely undistinguishable from 4 year program students. Many CGS kids eventually excel.

It may be tough to transfer out early due to the way CGS fulfills prerequisites. If you're up to the social challenges you might face, you'll certainly succeed academically. I have heard only good things from professors about former CGS students. You should base your decision on BU, not CGS vs. CAS/COM/CFA/etc.
