After thinking this through for a great deal of time, I have decided that I'll be applying ED to College of the Holy Cross for the Class of 2016. I am literally in love with what the school has to offer. It really truly fits me but I know that I fall short on some issues. I have taken the time to get in touch with the school, admission counselors, and professors to really show my true interest. I plan to interview this summer too. I believe that I could really make an impact as a part of the school. But, do i have a chance to do so?

So..what do you think?

Your GPA might be a bit low, but you seem like a well-rounded student! I think you have a pretty good chance. Just raise that GPA and work your butt off on all your senior classes. And you’re in luck because Holy Cross is actually SAT/ACT optional! (I loved that!) Haha. Being test optional actually worked in my favor because my test score was seriously horrific!
The way HC admissions work is that they have literally a team of people (12) instead of one person viewing the application in a hollistic view. They look at everything from the GPA, to the extra curriculars, the volunteering, the essay, the difficulty of classes, the interview, etc. until they come to a unanimous decision whether to accept you or not. I like that about Holy Cross.

Good luck!

Oh, and the interview is highly recommended so definitely take that opportunity!
I was lucky because I never did an interview and still got accepted, but don’t be like me and take that risky chance.

I think you have a good chance based on your numerous activities. Work as a hard as you can on your GPA. Holy Cross seems to create a very strong bond with and among their students. My 88 year old father who lives in Northern New Hampshire graduated from Holy Cross in 1943 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Navy and sent to the South Pacific to fight in WWII. While only a fairly small number of his classmates are still alive, he still communicates with them and travels to Worcester for reunions and other events. I graduated from a large state university and have not been back or communicated with any of my former classmates in decades. I hope you are accepted and take the opportunity to form the life-long bonds with your classmates that my father did at Holy Cross.

Holy Cross does have amazing alumni support. More than half of Holy Cross’s 32,000 alumni give to the college each year. That figure far exceeds the national average alumni-participation rate of 10 percent and is one of the highest rates of alumni giving for colleges that report the figures.

thank you so much guys! i’m definately going to interview. i’m really nervous though because i know that my gpa is low, and i don’t know how much it’ll be able to rise just by senior year but i plan to work really hard to show HC that even though my four years don’t all comprised represent what they’re looking for, that i’m good enough.

also jenonymous, if i have under a 2000 SAT by the time i apply, (say in the 1900s) would it be best not to send it? or should i to balance my gpa?

It’s obviously SAT optional, but Id say take the ACT in Sept (go for a 28+) or try and get 1900s. The GPA is a bit low so i think test scores will help you

You have a great chance as you have good test scores, a great recommendation, and awesome ECs. Your only weakness is your GPA, but if you could work on that a bit, you should have no problem getting in. Good luck!

thank you guys! hopefully it’ll work out
