College Possibilities

Hi,

I'm a Junior in High School. My GPA is a 3.2 or 3.3 unweighted but I do come from one of the most prestigious High Schools in the country, that is The Bronx High School of Science, and it is a very tough school to do good in. I have taken a couple of APs (not too many), am an excellent writer, and have a decent record of community service which I'll greatly improve in the coming months. Say theoretically I received a 2100 or 2200 plus SAT and great on three SAT Subjects with excellent essays and decent recommendations. I am financially weak: my father is a cab driver who makes maybe 30,000 at most and my mom might pitch in a thousand or two from babysitting.

I want to study in a good pre-med track, eventually making it out to be a doctor. What colleges would be good for my aspirations of pre med and what colleges are within range factoring in finance, grades, SAT, etc.?

P.S. Colleges have a higher regard for children from my school.

Even though you come from a prestigious school it doesnt change the fact that you got a 3.3 UW colleges like to see that students succeed in their school environment. IF you were top 10% thats one thing but if you were in the middle of your class colleges will take notice of that too. Its hard to say what schools would be the fit for you without your SAT scores and EC and essays but some nice safety/match schools would be UPitt, NYU (if you dont need FA), UWash, UCs, UMich. I would def look at those schools. Also look at some schools over the summer and see what fits you! good luck!

SUNY’s and CUNY’s will save you a lot of money and not keep you from med school.
