Yeah, it looks like alot
But the short answers have word limits of 100
And alot of the short explanations have limits of 50 or 30
I think that if you have something passionate to say for the personal statement, you’ll find that the box they give you is too small (500 words! I agonizingly spent forever trying to condense everything… as a result, I’m afraid that everything in the essay is too direct…)

I REALLY hope they’ll take the essays into deep consideration because I feel like thats my most compelling argument to get in :(

To be honest, I feel like the longest part of the app (the part that I’m dreading at least; I’ve already finished the personal statement + 1 short answer + the rest of the app), are the essays for the awards.

I’m planning to apply for a few, but theyre pretty much scaring me off cause they have 300 ch limits, so I feel like I need to say something REALLY substantial and slightly poetic

:(

GOOD LUCK GUYS!! I’d be so happy, even with just the conference

PS @ Larentia
You should probably ask a teacher who loves you and you should ask them in person–not through email. And then give them a thank you note or something.

@adababy845 I was born in Nigeria!!(i moved here 4 yrs ago)
Just make sure, you explain it in your app. Questbridge geared this scholarship to low-income/unique students like us
I don’t know why u guys are having problems with the mini courses/quizes, i finished them in less than 30 mins.

Hi everyone! I hope your applications are going well. I was wondering what addresses and phone numbers you’re putting down for the teacher rec? I already asked my APUSH teacher for the letter, but I’d feel strange asking him for his phone number. I could put down the number for the school’s social studies office and the school address, but they’d probably mail him things… help?

@adababy845 and @pinkrocket I am also Nigerian (came here roughly 5 years ago). Wow, I can’t believe I just made a post to say that (would that be considered ■■■■■■■■?)

@ everyone, my GPA is about 3.7UW and 3.9W, would that hinder my chances of becoming a finalist?

jacobo2880, that was my GPA when I applied to the College Prep Scholarship. A few months later and here I am matched to USC, so I don’t think that will really hinder you at all if you have everything else set well.

The teacher recommendation part of this application is really stressing me out. -____- I don’t want to have to tell my life story to my teacher. ughhhh, it’s going to be so awkwarddd

@Supergrover911, I feel your pain. I would suggest going to a teacher you are really cool with or a really nice teacher especially if you did/are doing well in his/her class. You will find that they are surprisingly understanding and I really don’t think they will judge you for it.

Your teacher doesn’t necessarily have to speak to your life at large, although it can help. So don’t feel pressured into revealing personal details; you’re probably on a strong footing with a good academic recommendation.

for those other awards: does anyone know if there’s a limit to how many you can do? i know i qualify for 3 of them. Newyork award, African american award … and one more that i forgot lol

with the essays, (the short response) i have alot of obstacles/passions and i feel like i need to go into details but the 100 word limit is making me go nuts. is there a penalty or something of that kind that will be put on my app. if i exceed the limit? plz help b/c i am really considering quiting the application! any advise will be appriciated.

Bakina, don’t lose hope just yet. Many college applications require short answers and these can helped. Learning how to edit and revise enough to make the word count will be a nice skill to have. Just keep playing with your answers more, and there are lot of other sections that allow you to explain any other circumstances you may be in.

Now my turn to have a question:
I am doing one of the region awards for the Quest of Excellence. Anybody know if it would be wise to focus on my state alone or discuss living in the region in general?

Laurentia, I think you would probably be better off emailing Questbridge and asking them. I think the region is so diverse that you could probably write about your own area, but I’m not the one reading the essay. :)

How’s everyone doing? Just looking at the application page makes me nauseous.

I’ve finished everything except the essay :). They are faxing in my transcripts tomorrow and my teacher recommender is already done! I’m planning on applying for 2 or 3 QfEs as well…

This application was really intimidating at first but it really isn’t that difficult once you get started. It’s also a great head start for the college match scholarship :D

so i am on the question asking to list other colleges that i might see myself attending. I am interested in economics and plan to make it my major however, i am from rwanda and have been here for 2 yrs, I started researching for college this year,(so i am not that exprienced w/ colleges) but i was wondering if anyone could give me a list of colleges that have good economic departments, that school should be in Northeast or midwest, i am not concerned about the "air/feeling"on that campus as long as there is security in the area. thanks!
