College Prep Scholarship Financial Information Problems

I'm interested in applying for the College Prep Scholarship this year, but am facing some problems with what I should put for my financial information.

I currently have a F-2 visa (I'm an international student attending a US high school) along with my mother while my father has a F-1. He has already finished his graduate degree and hence, on-campus employment, though and is trying to set up his own business, which is registered but is not actually up and running yet, meaning he's made no profits and is not contributing to the family income.

However, my mother has been working hard to contribute a small income to the family for more than a decade, which has had a significant impact on my life that I think I could write much about in the essay. Since she has an F-2 though, she is not legally allowed to be employed. My question now is whether or not I should include her contribution in the application. I don't want to falsify any information in the application but I also don't want to risk my family's legal status.
