College Recommendations

Is there a special form my teachers are supposed to use? or do they just write a letter and mail it in (with me providing the envelope and stamp, of course)?

Anyone? Someone has to know the answer…

I am pretty sure forms for your counselor and teachers are provided on the common app which will be released on August 1

If the college you are applying to uses the Common Application, then there is a process to upload the letters. Different high schools handle it in different ways, though (depends on whether they have Naviance software, etc.). You should talk to your high school guidance counselor office and ask them right when school starts, and ask your teachers early in the fall to do your recommendations. I think the guidance counselor and teachers know what format to use for Common App schools, too. They will upload the same letter for all of your colleges usually (although at some schools you can change that around – like my D2 had a letter from a coach at the school who was an alumni of one of her colleges write an extra letter – but she only used it at the school that coach had attended). You do need to keep an eye on the Common App to see if the upload has happened, I think.

If a college is not on the Common Application, then instructions will be found in their application on how to handle this.

If you go to a foreign high school where the Common App is not something they are familiar with (or high school does not have access to upload the letters), you could ask the colleges how they would prefer that you handle it.

Okay great information! Thank you both very much! Getting kind of nervous the closer we get to August :/
