College Requirements -- ACT/Subject Tests?

I'm a little confused. What does it mean to required "SAT and Subject Tests or ACT with Writing?" Collegeboard has also worded that some colleges require: "SAT & Subject Tests; Or ACT" Does this mean if I were to take the ACT, I am not required to have a supplement of Subject Tests because I am not submitting the SAT? Would it hurt not to have the SAT Subjects Tests?

I find the wording sometimes vague/confusing.

Thanks!

There are colleges which normally require SAT and two SAT subject tests (“SAT IIs”) which take the ACT in lieu of both of those. Go here for a list of colleges that require, recommend or consider SAT IIs. For those with a number in the required column, if there is an * next to the number it means that college will accept the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs. If there is no * you still must submit SAT IIs even if you submit ACT: [Compass: Admissions Requirements](<a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group)
For many of those that accept the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs, it won’t really help to submit IIs if you use the ACT because their rule is that they will use for admission the SAT and SAT IIs OR the ACT alone but not a mixture of the two choices(meaning they don’t consider IIs if you are relying on the ACT).
