I’m a junior in high school and we’re starting to talk to guidance counselors about our college search. I would like to become a physicians assistant but I’m not 100% sure where I’d like to go to college, although I’m thinking I want to stay in state. I live about 20 minutes away from SUNY Stony Brook University and Hospital. There are other schools like SUNYs for example that have great PA programs. The question I have is would it be foolish of me to go somewhere else in the state when a good program is so close to home, even though location is important to me as well as a new life experience away from high school?
Everyone is different. Stony Brook is a good school; if you’re happy going there and it’s affordable, that’s great! Lots of kids mover further away. Luckily, you’re in NY and have many good, affordable in-state public options. Depending on finances, you can cast a wider net and look at your options.
