College Selection Help for Friend's Daughter

Please help give me college suggestions for a friend's lovely daughter! She has asked me to help them come up with reaches, matches, safeties. I steered them to their high school's Naviance site for ideas too. Here are her stats:

Public High School- Texas (central); fairly large; has participated in a global studies core that included travel to Costa Rica, China for language studies, immersion/volunteer

SAT- 1790 (CR:650; Math:590; W: 550)

GPA- around 3.4

Rank- around 30%

Volunteer Work- very active in her church; lots of hrs at community soup kitchen

Orchestra- participated in high school orchestra (violin) all 4 yrs; placed in regional competitions 2 yrs

Ethnicity- White

Other- Bi-lingual (Eastern European language)

Needs lots of financial aid- family probably earns less than $30,000 but both parents very highly educated. Would like to major in International Studies/Global Studies and Music (violin)

Looking at CTCL's list

I'm sure I'm missing more of her accolades but really a super kid! Would like her to find somewhere where she will be excited to attend!

What type of music major is she looking at? If she’s interested in a performance major in violin, she’ll probably have to audition for at least some of the schools. You can find out more about that in the music major section of this website - it’s quite a process.

For safeties, perhaps check to see if any Texas public university is an automatic admit for her stats, has her majors, and is affordable (net price calculator).
