Intuitively, you'd expect college students to be more mature.

But I'd like to know--is that really true? There are a lot of immature students at my school who pull pranks on others, act like 2-yr-olds, and show teachers disrespect.

That's not present in college, is it? Especially not at the Ivy Leagues?

In general, college students are more mature than high schoolers. However, that is not to say that immaturity does not exist in both institutions. in high school, kids are stupid. thare are pranks, bulling, ect. in college, kids need to learn to live on their (if living on campus), which may be tougher for some than others. they will begin managing their own money and worrying about their own expenses. however, in college, there is the whole partying/drinking scene which kinda brings out the immaturity in students sometimes if it gets out of control. so i think in college, freshmen might be more immature as they will have to learn to live on their own as well as adapt to harder and more work worthy classes and take more responsibility knowing that there is no report card being mailed home to mommy and daddy and that they are on their own. i think by senior of college, if you have not grown up though, you will probably have a hard time in the real world. so expect more maturity but don’t be surprised to see really stupid kids in college. the academic experience should feel more professional, not sure about everything else.

Interesting question, from my experience thus far I would say that college students seem to be much more mature and accepting then high school students. The reason for this is because in college, you are going to interact with people of different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, etc.

Also, if a student try’s messing with a professor, there a going to be in for a world of hurt. Professors in college have ample authority to do, well, whatever they want as far as giving grades, so trying to irritate them is not within the best interest of the student. When you go to class, everyone is focused on the lecture therefore anyone who tries to disrupt this process usually becomes very unpopular by the class and the professor. College is a whole different world, and immaturity, at least in the academic sense, is not tolerated.
