College suggestions for me???

I'm looking into small liberal arts colleges in the Northeast. I have a 3.8 uw gpa & a 4.4 weighted gpa

I'm looking for:
-a low key party scene/not in your face
-top school with name recognition
-good career services & grad school placement
-a preppy feel but still with opportunities to take dance classes (but not too artsy/hipster)
-student body size 1000-6000
-northeast

Thank You!!!

tutu - You didn’t say what your SAT/ACT scores are. That makes it harder to make suggestions. But here are a few starting spots: Barnard, Fordham (Lincoln Center), Muhlenberg, and Goucher.

Connecticut College, Trinity College

Connecticut College

Skidmore…

We liked Providence and Fairfield Colleges.

I second Skidmore.

hamilton
bates
wesleyan

Ursinus fits most of your criteria (not really a preppy feel?), and if your test scores are in line with your GPA you would be a good candidate for merit aid.

Skidmore, Barnard, Wellesley.

Smith…

gettysburg
colgate
hamilton

there is no such thing among LACs. Even Swarthmore/Williams/Amherst will mean nothing to your next door neighbor (unless he graduated from one of them, or is a university professor)…
If you want a small school, look for the right fit, and forget about the name recognition.

I mean recognition for grad schools

I got a 27 on my act & 1880 sat & I’m 7th in my class of 300

What is your likely major?

What is your budget? How much will your parents pay?

I agree with many of the suggestions. Some aren’t LACs, but they’re small universities and are similar to LACs.

Are Catholic schools ok?

I live near Skidmore and have taken classes there- awesome school, great town and really good for staying into dance.

Vassar would be a reach, but perhaps worth looking at. Bard is more of a match, but perhaps a little too artsy. (It didn’t look nearly as artsy/hipser as I expected when we were there.) That said, I wouldn’t say it was preppy either - it just seemed pretty laid back.

Hope you’ll consider the women’s colleges. Not all have been mentioned…so…be sure to look into Mount Holyoke (very good dance program in association with the other 5 colleges) and Bryn Mawr.

Your test scores aren’t quite on par with your grades and class rank…so…be sure to look at schools that are test optional or clearly state they have a broad based approach to admissions.

Wells and Union in upstate NY and SUNY Purchase (not very preppy…but might meet your other qualifications) could be of interest.

I disagree about LAC’s, and think many have name recognition, particularly the “little Ivies.”

If you are interested in dance, as well as good academics and prestige, and some preppiness, I would say (and this list contains no dance conservatories, just colleges):

Connecticut College
Smith
Vassar
Barnard
Sarah Lawrence (artsy)
Skidmore (artsy)
Goucher (one of “Colleges that Change Lives” but not too selective)
Bennington (not preppy, artsy)
Hobart William Smith
UMass Amherst
Tufts (no dance major)
BU (no dance major)
Clark University?
Drew University?

There’s a good book available online called “Creative Colleges” that lists dance programs at various colleges and conservatories.

This student’s SAT scores will need to improve a bit to be a competitive admit to most of the schools on list in the above post. At this point, there are no sure things and many are in the reach category.
