I don't know what colleges to apply to. I'm primarily interested in computer science and programming. I'm also interested in math, science, and engineering. I prefer larger schools. My family is poor so I would like colleges that offer a lot of financial aid.

=Average: 90.9
=SAT: 2230
=SATST: Math II - 750, Biology - 760, Chemistry - 690
=AP: Calculus BC - 5, Computer Science AB - 5
=EC: chess club, math team
=Location: New York City
=Gender: Male
=Ethnicity: Asian-American

So far, the only college I'm applying to is Carnegie Mellon. I would greatly appreciate any college suggestions.

Since you are a resident of NY you should look at the SUNYs - at least Binghamton and Stony Brook. Most OOS publics will not offer financial aid. Mom2CK would recommend U of Alabama. With your scores the major Us in the Mississippi delta might offer aid (Miss, LA, AL).

I agree with the above poster - I’m from CT, but I’m interested in the same major as you (maybe comp eng instead of comp sci) and am thinking about SUNY-Binghamton. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Cornell, and Georgia Tech are probably worth applying to, too.

well, your SAT is phenomenal… but your GPA is a little on the low side, unless it’s laoded down w/ AP’s or if you’re from an extremely competitive high school; The EC’s are weak and you don’t seem to have that strong of a transcript; here are some schools I’d recommend:

SUNY Stony Brook (you’d prob get tons of merit aid)
State of NJ- Rowan (excellent comp sci school)
Vanderbilt (purely need-based; one of the best financial aid policies in the country — a little of a reach, but go for it)
UTexas-Austin
Georgia Tech
UGeorgia
