What would you say is your most important item(s) for college?

a computer that connects to the internet

... everything else is really secondary

maybe:
a desk light
storage bins that stack or go under the bed
some kind of bag to carry things to class
normal school supplies
surge protector

Yeah, my college career has been turning into a game of just how much stuff I can do on my computer and not have to have extra supplies for.

But as for the other stuff that I use on an almost daily basis: Post-its are absolutely necessary, and rather than a desk light like soccerguy suggested, I'd get one of those lamps that clips to your bed.

definitely a notebook or desktop

I would die without my laptop and printer.

Laptop (of course), cell phone, 3x5 notecards, and if you're in a gloomier winter climate, one of those lamps that mimics natural light.

My essentials for everyday college life:

-Volvo 850 (to get me to and from campus)
-Pencils...lots of them, the American Naturals kind are really comfy to write with
-A pencil sharpener...the Boston electric kind is the best
-Legal pads...the only real way to take notes
-Some sort of big fat marker for pointing out important stuff...I like orange Sharpies myself
-Apple iBook G3 (tangerine in color) loaded up with OS 9.1, MacDraw II, WetPaint clip art, MacPaint, MacWrite Pro, Claris Resolve, and HyperCard...connected to a Canon i450 printer and a mouse
-Lots of good music, mostly Eurotrance
-Clothes...I like Abercrombie & Fitch myself, and I have everything from regular everyday stuff (polo shirt and khakis) to gym clothes (tee shirt and shorts) to church-caliber clothes (shirt and tie)
-A TV so you can get your news and sports fix
-Access to a gym...great stress relief
-Gum...also stress relief and a good breath freshener if you're on the run
-DESIRE...that's right, DESIRE...if you've got enough DESIRE you can get a ton of A's!

read the "A to Z:What to Bring to College" topic.

For classes:

laptop
spiral notebook, 100 pages college ruled (with perforated, easy-tear out pages)
giant box of blue pens
scientific calculator
backpack

That's about it for essentials. College classes don't really require a lot.

A flash drive!
