College Transfer Question

Hi, I’m a freshman from a top40 university and major in computer science. I had academic misconduct last semester due to cheat on one elective course’s final exam. The punishment was zero on the final exam and a letter of warning. Therefore, I got a C- on that course. Besides, other courses are all A. I see that many universities required a Statement of Good Standing from Prior Institution. Will I be rejected due to the academic misconduct I have encountered? Or that is not a big deal?

It is a huge deal to cheat at US universities. It doesn’t sound like you have any remorse:

Your university can choose not to give you a “statement of good standing”.

My friend recently had this happen, I would talk with your advisor. It all depends on the current university you are at, because some will not report your first instance. However, do not lie if you are asked by a prospective college and show an understanding that what you did was wrong. On your application, you can explain why you have a C- if you feel you need to, but it might be in your best interest to just let sleeping dogs lie.
