Is this going to devolve into *another *hot or not thread?

I guess I was one of them :(

what kind of food did they have?

Haha I was there today. We went inside the Pauley Pavilion! XD Freakin' awesome!

I loved when my campus tour guide took us to the inverted fountain and told us a few of the rivalry stories with USC :D And the Bruin baptism thing XD I lol'ed so much when she said we'd get another quarter added for each time we touched the water, haha.

Damn all the College Welcome Day kids for taking up all the room in Covel. Grr.

We had pasta with scallops, Hawaiian burger with teriyaki meat and canadian bacon, and enchiladas.

can't wait, mine's Friday!

i think im more excited about the food

duckedtape, they had pasta, pizza, ice cream, almost like a hometown buffet!

notaznguy, I wonder how they captured the 20,000 crickets ;)

haha same :P

Went there with my son this weekend and attended CWD on the 7th. Had a ball! The food was excellent. The guide was terrific! It was beautiful. Please make sure everyone in your party wears comfortable shoes. The campus is huge with steps everywhere. If you are into 'working out', make sure you see the health club. My son thought it was one of the best. After visiting, my son said he wished High School was over and he could just stay there. As you've probably guessed, he cancelled his Berkeley tour and will be signing his letter of intent today.

lol i think your son should at least check out berkeley, some people like it although i didn't... i guess thats why im here :) enjoy the remaining of senior year in highschool because once midterm hit you in college there is way too much studying required compare to highschool... our dining=#1 in the nation, definitely better than the food at other colleges i went to... for those people that doesn't care about the inverted fountain myth... go try it for a couple times prove them wrong! lol

i agree with kick53rv3, it's important to not commit to a school entirely before you check out other schools. i checked out ucla and was extremely gung ho about attending. i then made a last minute trip to berkeley (literally, flew there in the morning and then came home the same day during spring break, very $$) and after seeing all of the schools that i got accepted to, realized that ucla was my school in terms of academics and atmosphere.

in addition, i would like to reinforce that you should enjoy the last weeks of your senior year. it is the cumulation of your high school tenure and once you leave it, you cannot really go back! have fun but don't get plagued wit senioritis :) and hope to see you here in the Fall.

I don't get it.
The food wasn't as fantastic as everyone says.
It's definitely not the best in the nation, according to all the ranking sites.
Although this may not be a credible site, Princeton Review ranks UCLA as
#13 Professors Get Low Marks Academics
#15 Professors Make Themselves Scarce Academics

It is nowhere near the best food-list:
1 Virginia Tech
2 Bowdoin College
3 Wheaton College (IL)
4 Bryn Mawr College
5 James Madison University
6 Colby College
7 Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering
8 Saint Olaf College
9 Cornell University
10 Washington University in St. Louis
11 University of Notre Dame
12 Scripps College
13 Middlebury College
14 Miami University
15 University of Georgia
16 Claremont McKenna College
17 College of the Atlantic
18 Bates College
19 Macalester College
20 Gustavus Adolphus College

But then again, I might be pessimistic.
Please don't flame at me!

Food isn't #1, who told you that. The #2 myth has been passed on for quite a while, but I don't think it's true. All these rankings are quite subjective.

For food, it just depends what kind of food you like. Just like dorm food at any college, the factor is how long you will get tired of it. At some U, it may be three meals .. possibly a little longer at UCLA.

UCLA has good food relative to other universities (maybe best out of the UCs), but I don't think it's to 10 in the nation.

Also, the Princeton Review rating is not very accurate. What consisted of the population polled? I don't think every univ. student in the nation rated their own college, so the results are not accurate.

quite a lot of people actually, sure princeton review has a ranking list... its like coaches poll, ap poll and USA today poll for college football, they all have different ranking for teams but where your team is at depends on the poll... also the ranking is not purely on food taste but also considers dining environment, variety, nutritional value and so on...

My tour guide also said something along those lines.

yeah the common idea that most student hears is that we were 2nd last year when cornell was first because of their culinary school, but we somehow passed them this year and ranked first... no one really said which organization ranked it but really I think number 1, top 10 or not its still great for dorm food with great variety and flexibility, from 7am to 2am

brownie goo and cuban frita burger...so many calories but oh so good.
