Hey everyone. So I’m a sophomore in high school, and lately I’ve been stressing out a ton about my chances of college. This school year has been kinda rough, and I’ve done poorly in a couple of my classes. This has resulted in my GPA going down to a 3.3. I’m trying to straighten myself out and do better, but I’m still full of anxiety. I want to go to college and hopefully study zoology, would that be a possibility for me? I hate feeling like a failure because of my bad grades and was just wondering if there was still some hope for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are tons of schools who would love to have you with a 3.3 (or lower). Look for the threads on here for students with 3.0-3.4 GPAs. My own S17 had probably slightly lower than a 3.0 and he is a very happy sophomore. Relax, do you best, and enjoy high school!
@haannah18 you’re only a sophomore in high school, you’ve got time to straighten things out. If you are really concerned however I would recommend taking a couple community college courses over the next few years that would be transferable. Not only would it boost your GPA but I think it would look great to colleges even if your only doing general ed courses. Make sure you look into the course and the professor ( I recommend checking on ratemyprofessor) to ensure that you will pass. I took CC classes at night while in high school and it was very manageable. Keep in mind though that whatever grades you get in those courses will determine your college GPA wherever you end up, so if you get all A’s you’ll be going into University with a nice cushion but of course that can back fire so don’t overwhelm yourself. Try a summer class or online class and see if that works in your favor, I was lucky enough to attend a nice high school but I found a majority of the CC classes I have taken to be incredibly easy, just time consuming.
Since it’s the end of the year OP only has next year (junior year) to boost her gpa before college admissions start so the OP is valid in being concerned. Admission decisions are based only on gpa through junior year’ senior year is more to keep acceptances from being rescinded.
I’d start to look at colleges with realistic admissions for your stats. There are plenty of good schools out there for kids with average gpa’s.
