ya...w t f

does penn try to make itself look good or something?

thats what i think too...but i dont know

Perhaps they are citing different years?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 30 - 34, though. 34 corresponds with a 1520, which I believe marks Penn's 75th percentile for the SAT I scores of admitted applicants.

Joey

i'm surprised it is displayed as 28-33, coz usually its higher

As I posted in another thread, a distinguished Professor at U of Texas has alleged that Penn cooks its numbers to get high ranking in the US News.

To quote Prof. Leiter:

[Penn is] ranked 4th [in the US News] because they cook the numbers, plain and simple (as a former Penn Dean said to me a few years back, "I'd hate to be around if they ever audited the books"). That started with former Penn President Judith Rodin; whether Amy Gutmann will continue that "tradition" remains to be seen.

what do u mean they "cook" their numbers?? IT is lower ACT in the collegeboard than on their website...

wouldn't they post scores higher if they want a higher rank?

Penn can put any number it wants on its website, but who knows the collegeboard has its own way to calculate the "real" numbers. It could also be that Penn only lists its accpeted students' numbers instead of matriculating students' numbers since the accepted students numbers are higher. Generally those who score higher generally have more options and tend to go other schools, perhaps HYP. Bottom line is, Penn seems to have the reputation of playing with the numbers than most other schools.

I realize there are all sorts of reasons one could purport for accepting half of a university's class Early Decision ... but it definitely has something to do with raising averages. At least in part. Penn really cares about its numbers. It didn't get to 4th in USNWR by not taking drastic action.

Joey

so, should i believe in the 30-34 one?

collegeboard has nothing to do with the act - act is run by a different company so collegeboard probably takes information from penn or someone else

why does it matter either way? lol. score within the range and you're fine. and even if you don't, it'll be ok anyway.
