If you go back to the very first thread of the old site (back in April of 2003) there was a dad that posted. His name was Linton and he has a daughter that graduated from BC and a daughter that should now be a sophmore there.

Only Strasberg offers opportunities for singing and dancing? So, what if you're not a fan of "The Method" and prefer, for instance, Stella Adler's acting training to Strasberg's, but at the same time, you don't wanna be stuck having no access to the other disciplines if you're not accepted to CAP?

My D has auditioned at both Elon and OCU this fall and although dance seems to be a strong component in MT training, dance for audition purposes is optional at both schools. At Elon, you may choose to do a one minute choreographed dance (you must bring a cassette or cd and player) instead of a second vocal piece, if you so choose ( my daughter did not do this as singing is her primary strength). At OCU, the dance portion is optional and is for leveling purposes only (and is not considered part of the audition). Hope this helps.

Those of you who are coming to Boston for Sunday's audition--any thoughts on how we can identify one another?

also, someone asked about getting tickets to the PSU show--if you email the theatre dept and tell them you are coming for an audition, they will reserve tickets for you--just tell them how many you want

I wish we would have done something to identify ourselves at OCU. I thought it would just happen, but it didn't and I know some of us were in the same room at the same time.

Why not everyone post the dates that they're auditioning, that way we can match up dates and actually know who to look for at an audition instead of crazily trying to make some strange fasion statement and make the the auditioners think that theres some strange cult going around!

NewMTMom,
I don't have any brilliant ideas about how to identify one another but we'll be at Emerson on Sunday. I have no clue the quantity of folks that will be there. I know I likely will be talking to people and not appear to be all alone because my D's best friend from CT will be there and I will likely be with her Dad and then I know two friends from up here in VT that also will be there so their moms will be there. That means three folks who say they are from VT, lol. I probably will be wearing a black leather jacket and have a black Dooney and Bourke pocketbook. I have medium brown shoulder length hair.

If you want to send me a private message on CC, we can exchange names or whatever. See you in Boston!

NYU has all my records and looking forward to reviewing them. Thank you so much for all of your posts. They supported me in my time of need. College is a stressful time for all of us (especially musical theatre students). I wish everyone the best of luck with their auditions.

S and friend of S both got acceptances today from Arizona State in MT. And they came in thin envelopes, so I sat waiting with dread for S to open his. What a relief to know that they both have somewhere to go and have no worries about safety schools.

Chris...YAY!!!! an acceptance already! Wow! is this a school he auditioned at? I had no idea any place was all done with that whole process but in any case, what a wonderful accomplishment plus relief he is in somewhere!
Susan

Ariya...I'm happy for ya. One step done. My D's NYU app coincidentally got mailed today ;-).

Chris, congratulations to your son and his friend! What great news and to have it so early! I have my fingers crossed for all of these wonderful kids as they go through this nerve-wracking process this year. :)

Chrisr..
Congrats to your son! It must be a great relief to have an acceptance this early...no matter where ASU stands on his "wish list" of colleges! And as I remember your son also auditioned at OCU and should have that decision quite soon as well. Hope his results are favorable there too. You may be finished with the process sooner than you thought!! Is he auditioning at a lot of schools in Jan-Mar too?

Hope we're hearing of more acceptances all across our thread soon! Fingers crossed!

My junior D and I are new to this board, but we have read all posts (and learned so much). Lots of awesome competition out there! We have picked the following schools: FSU, OU, OCU, UM, CCM-we have our heart set on one of them-but I hear alot about "safety schools"....any suggestions? We live near Atlanta (and all of these are so faraway). Am I missing any other schools? I think she would prefer the school to be larger than our high school-2000. Thank you all for shring so much information!

Poppins...
If your daughter wants a school larger than 2000, she may not be happy with OCU. I believe we have been told there are 1700 undergrads and about as many graduate students. The undergrad population is fairly small there. Just so you know....

Chrisr--Congratulations to your S!! What a relief! Whew. I can just feel it.

Re ASU: when we visited last week we were told it's a really good idea to audition in November, instead of January or February (I'm assuming this means a rolling admissions process for MT). The money is also better if one auditions then, so I hope Chrisr's S gets some big bucks!

My question is: with an acceptance in hand this far ahead, when does one have to commit or not commit to that school? When will ASU want an answer, in other words!

Poppins, I honestly don't know any safety BFA in MT schools! However, other options (not safe, lol) that are big...NYU/Tisch, Penn State, Syracuse, Ithaca, UMiami, Hartt at Univ. of Hartford.

chrisR- Congratulations! I hope we all get to pass on good news like that by April! Hopefully sooner...that would really be great. My dining room has turned into "the room from hell". I'm trying to keep all the college info/paperwork in one area, but it seems to spread like bacteria everywhere. Musical scores in the living room, play books in the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, ugh! I'll be happy when my D is done with all of this and we can get rid of everything but the catalogs/brochures from the one college she finally attends. The stress in unbelievable. Thank goodness it usually hits me on a different day than my D.
