Do colleges google applicants? Is this not illegal to an extent?

No, the internet is public domain - not private. Therefore, beware of what you put on websites on Facebook, MySpace, etc. Obviously, admissions officers can't "google" every applicant. But if something sounds fishy, they certainly can and will. They can always verify the information not only through the internet but also with others.

all of the first 3 pages of links for my named googled are actually about me -.-. not to mention the next couple of pages afterward (the links afterward are not all about me, but some are)

apparently there are several important people who share the same names as me...who'd have guessed? And here I thought I was one of a kind....

Colleges can't read whats on your facebook. You have to be a facebook member to see other people's facebook info, so you couldnt see anything on Google anyways.

^^This assumes that the only thing about you on the internet is from Facebook, which isn't true. Colleges can find out a lot about some applicants from Google. A college adcom from UVa who posts on CC from time to time said that they do Google some applicants, particuarly if they are claiming lots of big awards and ECs.

Predator: You never know. My profile is private and only my facebook friends can see what's on it. However, others have seen my full profile because they were friends with someone I was friends with.
