Is this true ? Im applying to some colleges in NYC and worried about my chance of finaid.

Charlotte:

There are are only a few US universities that meet full need of internationals. Thus, I would guess that Columbia would be the only one in NYC-area. But note, while Columbia will meet your full need if admitted, Columbia is not need-blind in admissions for internationals. Thus, they will take into account whether you apply for aid prior to being admitted. In comparison, Cornell – yeah, upstate NY – is need-blind in admissions for internationals, but does not meet full need of internationals if accepted.

To the OP…there are a bunch of colleges in NYC. Their financial aid policies for international students vary quite a bit.

Nah~ I don’t look for such beasty institutions. Im really considering Barnard and Fordham, both in NYC. My family can only contribute $15000/yr and I know that seems indicative of poor chance

Where are you applying

If your stats are good, I would suggest Macaulay Honors @ Hunter College. Macaulay Honors would waive your tuition, and Hunter also provides housing for Macaulay students.

You don’t have to be a NYS or NYC resident, either. Out of state and international students are welcome to apply.

Bard, Vassar, Colgate provide fin aid to international students

Vassar is not in NYC. Its in bumblef**k Poughkeepsie. Neither is Colgate or Bard. However, all 3 do offer aid. I think you are thinking about NYU rite?

NYU has never accepted students from my country except one with Green Card so I’m not.
Im thinking Barnard and Fordham, how about them ?

Neither school is need blind to international applicants, so your ability to pay will be a factor in admissions. Fordham does not meet 100% demonstrated need.

Charlotte…the info is available on these schools’ websites… You need to look at them.

From Fordham’s website…

Fordham University does not offer need based financial aid to international applicants.

If you want to go to school in the US, then you probably need to expand your geography and include schools that will give you merit scholarships for your stats.

I still think you need to at least take a look at Macaulay Honors @ Hunter.
