Colleges recalculate gpa?

Do top tier schools like HYPS and top 20's recalculate the gpa. For instance, a 4.0 could be a 3.7 at another school because we have an easier grading scale, no pluses or minuses

A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 59 and below

This is kind of unfair to some people.

The short answer: some do, some don't.

Which do and which don't?

As far as I know, all colleges recalculate with their own criteria... I can't think of any that don't. They look at your school GPA as compared to their version of your GPA. Unless your school has some crazy GPA inflating, it shouldn't be anything to worry about, since class rank, etc. will also be considered as well as how generally rigorous your HS is, if you took AP courses, etc. etc. Check the websites of the schools youre interested in or ask your counselor
