Colleges Sending More than Just Acceptance Letters (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

High Point University sent their scholarship awards in a box filled with purple confetti. Also in the box was a box of godiva chocolates. Yesterday they sent a large poster of the school rolled in a plastic tube. Let see what we get today!

Bentley University sent a t shirt.

Wharton gave a thumb drive with "Wharton - University of Pennsylvania" as well as "Class of 2013" printed on it for ED...

I got nothing special but a really generous financial aid package from Dartmouth when they sent me their ED acceptance envelope. But a Dartmouth alum came to my house in late December (I live in MA and it was snowing and freezing) and gave me a t shirt. I thought that was nice.

@ icecream,

I applied to the College of the Liberal Arts. Did you apply to the same college? It came with my letter from the Dean.

groupiegurl143- I bet that’s what the application fee is used for. Come on, what else could they REALLY spend (up to) $65 per applicant on?

Letters and e-mails, letters and e-mails. :/

A photo of a professor (or the dean) on one knee would be nice.

i got only a few things, and they were from the schools i didnt watn to go to. upittsburgh gave me a shirt, but it was apparently for an obese man. drexel gave em all sorts of little crap, and i think ive gotten like two decals.
Cornell sent me a likely letter, so i cant complain because that has lifted my spirits amazingly through three other rejections ive just received the past few days.
UCSD called me, which i thought was fabulous. it made me really happy to get a personal call letting me know i was accepted. although i too would rather have more financial aid than any other crap

Duke has had several professors e-mail me, the president sent me a hand-signed letter, and the admissions officer who read my file sent me a hand-written postcard.

lolcats4 was that ED?

I got phone calls from UCLA alums encouraging me to attend receptions, etc and I just got a really nice package with a UCLA decal a couple days ago. :)

Ithaca sent me a really sweet tshirt that I’m wearing right now. They got my size right and everything. Of course, I’m a medium, so they could just send that to everyone…

i got a decal from Pitt with my honors school admission in october.
in december, after i sent in my deposit to my ED school, Pitt sent me a calendar…i kept it anyway. saved me a few bucks on a 2009 calendar.

My CMU “fat letter” had a pic of 3 guys in kilts on the front, and one was jumping and clicking his heels together :)

A few weeks after my acceptance to my state school, I got a big package with a t-shirt, a pennant, a lanyard, some decals, and $12,000 in scholarships. It’s was really nice to get the stuff, even though the school is my safety and I’m not planning on going there.

i got a scarf as a reward for getting the highest scholarship package at my safety school. kind of random, but funny

update: UCLA had alumni call me for alumni interviews, got a scholarship certificate, they hosted a catered reception with admissions directors, staff, student panels, etc, and also Regents mentor personalized letter.

Apparently they have a special program for Regents scholars to stay overnight so i might do that as well. Also got decals and wallets.

Claremont Mckenna’s had a large envelope with “yep, you def got the big envelope” and a huge CONGRATULATIONS emblazoned on the front. alumni magazine included. Oh, but the dean did write a personalized note. That was really cute. :)

My son just got a poster from the University of Kentucky, where he will be attending Fall 2009.

My friend who got into Columbia College in Chicago got a trendy black box with nature images on it. In the inside was this transparent “acceptance letter” that simply said “you’re in” on it. Also, it came with a set of stickers, a sketchbook, postcards, and stationary. I was so jealous!!

Indiana University sent out scarves to all the students earning their highest scholarships… they sent a package with a letter saying “You Earned Your Stripes!”. Really nice scarf… too bad I won’t be attending there!

It may be because I’m in a very small, specific program, but I have received several emails directly from one of my potential professors at one school. It’s been really nice, since I can ask questions to her and she’s kept me up-to-date with what’s going on around the program and invites to apply for scholarships I might not have known about otherwise (which is always VERY appreciated).
