Colleges That Care Less About Midyear Reports

So this first semester I got a C+ in AP Calculus BC, my first C in High School, and one B and 4 A's, from 5 AP classes. My GPA was already the weakest part of my application, and i'm afraid this is jsut going to eliminate my chances at some reaches. are there some colleges that care less about midyear reports, and others that place more emphasis on this? Or is the importance to colleges about the same at each?

You'll get the most useful replies if you say where you applied.

oh, thanks!
accepted to notre dame & oxford college of emory so far
applying: amherst, brown, claremontmckenna, pomona, columbia, georgetown, northwestern, stanford, vanderbilt, washU, yale

having a C and a B on your mid-year report will hurt you, especially for the top-notch schools like stanford, yale, columbia, georgetown, brown, amherst...however, what did the C and B do to your rank? You have to understand that we don't know how good you are in the context of your school. Maybe the other top kids in your grade are also getting Cs and Bs, which would actually help your rank. At my school, getting an A in something is pretty easy, so our grades are inflated heavily. However, at your school, people might be struggling just to get Cs. Give us an idea of how you stand within the context of your school, and we'll be able to help you more with how much it'll hurt you.

thanks Def890!
our school doesn't release rank, but releases a grade distribution chart. Unweighted, I WOULD be 80th percentile. This is at a prestigious private school. My courseload though is really tough (a lot of 17 of 358 students with 4.0s take just one or two APs), so weighted I would definitely be top 10% (but unfortunately it's not explicitly stated for colleges). thanks again!!

this is why I hate Calculas for most students....stupid class that is bascially useless for most students, while other math, logic, etc are sooo much more usefull

blech

and the C won't kill you...I think colleges will someday stretch their collective brains and say, hey, not eveyone has to be a Cal genius to do well here and gee, some Calc teachers stink

If your courseload is one of the toughest at the school, the colleges will definitely notice that. They'll see how you stand on the unweighted grade distribution chart, but I can assure you that they'll take your hardest course load into account much more. Given this hardest courseload, one C and one B will still hurt you, but not as much. They'll see that you're one of the few students at your school who is challenging himself the most. Good luck!
