I had all 'A’s in math except for a ‘B’ first semester Honors Geometry. I’m just not good at higher level math, I guess.</p>
<p>The funny thing is that I already knew all the material from H Pre-Calc, so it was all just review. I kind of got a little arrogant because I thought it would be a breeze…</p>

<p>Overlook it? No. But if you have everything else they want it won’t eliminate you. I’m not talking Princeton here, but most schools. Princeton takes very few deferred students and a C in AB calc probably closes the door there.</p>
<p>Ask your guidance counselor if they redo rank at midyear report time. At some schools, rank calculation ends after junior year. Even if they do recalculate rank, they may not report it on the midyear report. Definitely speak to your GC.</p>

<p>The bottom line is that your chance after a deferral at P was under 5% regardless, so don’t sweat it. HYS? Wow, if that’s where you were aiming I have to be honest and tell you that you shot yourself in the foot. I don’t have your profile, but chances were small anyway. These schools reject the vast majority of vals and most 2400s. Number 5 without a hook will be tough.</p>
<p>Does your school offer BC calc? If yes, taking AB alone was a crime against HYPS!</p>
<p>Nothing is impossible, but your best shot at a HYPS was the one you applied to SCEA.</p>

<li><p>Moving from rank 1 to rank 5 is pretty much trivial unless your high school is tiny. Both are great.</p></li>

<p>All the top-notch schools do, which is really unfortunate. I wouldn’t lose hope though. And I totally sympathize with you. Calculus is IWFJSKDFJKLSDFJLJFKSDJF. I find it unfair how people who want to go into non math-related fields have to suffer with the ghastly grades calculus gives to students who struggle in math. -_-</p>
