Colleges that don't require you to write an essay to apply?

I’m not a very good writer. Any colleges that don’t require you to produce a writing piece / personal statement when applying? I know IIT doesn’t require any writing piece and Valparaiso Uni only requires a small personal statement.

I guess your next question will be: Any colleges or majors that don’t require you to produce a writing piece to get your degree?

You need to learn to write well. Period.

I am a good writer. I got an 8 out of 12 on the ACT essay. Which is pretty decent. But Im not good at writing interesting or attention-getting essays which is what these college admissions officers look for…

And I plan to major in Physics so I would be doing much writing in college.

*wouldnt be doing much writing in college. Well, besides lab reports but lab reports are technical writing and that is completely different …

California State Universities do not require an essay on their application. Admission based on GPA and Test scores. Many Rolling admission schools such as NAU do not require an essay and I believe also Univ. of Alabama to name a few. Unfortunately, essays are a big part of your college classes, especially GE’s and most Universities have some required writing classes as part of your graduation requirements.

Lots of them. Iirc Purdue was one of them. Canadian colleges like MCGill doesn’t require one. Only the tippy top colleges require essays.

Okay thank you for the info.

Clemson does not require an essay unless you apply to Calhoun Honors.

I am not sure whether Minnesota requires an essay or not…

To be frank, admission to physics programs doe snot depend on your writing too much but getting merit aid at a place like IIT does depend on your communication ability. As a physics professor though, I can confirm that writing well will be an important plus in your career. If you are in research, you will need to write compelling grant proposals and your articles need to be written well too.

For what it’s worth, you can write ONE essay for the Common App and use it for a lot of schools. (Yeah, I know, some require a supplemental essay, but many do not.)

Why not bite the bullet, write one decent (not “outstanding” , not “earthshaking”) essay, and open up your possibilities. I’ll be happy to talk you through it if you think it will help.

Washington College will probably be a safety for you, but it requires no essay & the fee is waived in the Common App

Lawrence is pretty good in physics and only requires a few sentences.
