Colleges/Universities offering Music Industry

I am thinking about majoring in Music Industry/Music Business. What are some colleges with the best programs for this major? I am more interested in the business side of things.

A student from my high school decided to attend Ferris State University. She said she based her decision on the music program there. I personally have not done any research in that area.

USC has a very reputable program for music business. Basically, you want to be where the music scene is - I have also heard good things about Belmont U (near Nashville, which is a country music center) and of course my own school, NYU. I’m not going to study Music Biz there though.

To elaborate on what justspice said…

USC - BM or BS in Music Industry
Belmont - BM in Commercial Music (Business emphasis)
NYU - BFA Recorded Music in Tisch (Executive Entrepreneur emphasis)
NYU - BM Music Business in Steinhardt

I’d also like to add:

UMiami - BM in Music Business and Entertainment Industries (requires contemporary songwriting minor)
Berklee College of Music - BM in Music Business/Management

For the BM programs, you’ll probably have to audition and take core music requirements like theory, aural skills, and maybe even private lessons. BFA and BS won’t require performance, but probably will require a portfolio or something. I applied, auditioned, and got into most of these schools, so if you’re interested in applying and want any guidance, let me know. Good luck in your search!

Also, try posting this in the music major forum. You’ll probably get more helpful responses over there.

Also, Syracuse and Middle Tennessee State.
