Bentley: because that's what you'll be able to have if you go there

Muhlenburg: reminds me of having to take a dump and clog up your toilet

california university of pennsylvania

I wonder if the general liking of certain Ivies' names (Princeton and Dartmouth, for instance) I've been observing is intrinsic, or just because they're well-known enough that people's expectations of what college names should be (one word, semi-preppy?) have developed in response...

I dislike Dartmouth. It isn't pronounce like it's spelled and that irks me. :) It's never good to have a word made out of two other words, either, especially when the words are "dart" and "mouth". Ouch.

Some of the Best: Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Georgetown, Washington and Lee, University of Virginia, Berkeley, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford

Some of the Worst: Wollongong

Wow, University of Virginia, such a fantabulous name :p

Hahahah...there's something about that "University of" added with "Virginia."

Agreed. :)

UVA is awesome and its name is as original as ever. Thomas Jefferson University is oh so last century. :)

LOL I don't see why Duke is not mentioned more. Come on...DUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKEEEE! The name alone is cause for pontificating. :)

I like Georgetown, Northwestern (probably just the fact that's its so outdated), and Vanderbilt (btw, Cornelius Vanderbilt never even set foot in the south, and he technically didn't found the university either. He just gave a $1 million to this Methodist university in nashville because his brother-in-law ran it. The board of trustees later renamed the college after him.)

Bryn Mawr (of however you spell it) and Colgate are pretty funny names.

Isn't there a "Lake Forest University"? Hmm...what does that sound like?

"American University in London at Florence."

Are you serious?

I love the name Pepperdine. It's fun to say. Even though I have no intention of applying there...

American University

i like harvard and yale and princeton and stanford
i don't like MIT or Univ of Pennsylvania or U of Chicago or Northwestern (often confused with Northeastern) and Rice is pretty bad

I like Duke and Columbia the best

James Madison University
Madonna University

-CHESSEEY

Best: Auburn, Dartmouth, Chapel Hill ( sounds elegant hahhaa), Fordham (only when correctly pronounced "ford'-uhm")
Worst: Oglethorpe, Kalamazoo, Sewanee, Yale

one of the worst: Wartburg College...i think of warts everytime.

College of the Ozarks
Ursinus

worst- Rowan

I like the name "Massachusetts Institute of Technology." It has a lot of syllables and sounds official.

For bad names, I would pick Kalamazoo, Yale, Muhlenberg, Skidmore, and Tufts.

A lot of people seem to think Harvey Mudd is a really unattractive name, but I don't think it is so bad.

i think yale sounds very distinguished, but maybe thats only because its yale. i like "university of notre dame" it has a very attractive feel. imo.
