Hi, I'm desperately trying to expand my college search, and quickly too since it's only a couple of weeks left until college deadlines.

I'm seeking out colleges that have good engineering programs and also strong study abroad programs in engineering. Specifically, I'm looking for colleges that allow students to help out in less wealthy nations, etc.

Many schools will encourage study abroad even for engineers. You could, for example, study abroad in the summer or select an engineering-intensive foreign university (e.g. Imperial).

Dozens of colleges offer Engineers Without Borders:

After the basic general science courses, IIRC in other countries engineering work is done in different systems of units, I think that might be annoying for engineering courses. FWIW.

Engineers at the Univ. of Southern California can study abroad for either a summer or a semester. Viterbi offers a summer academic program in one of several cities. Examples have been London, Madrid, Paris and Rome.

International exchange programs are offered wtih several partner institutions abroad. At any one of these students can work on courses toward their USC degree.

Viterbi is the home of the Biomimetic Microelectronic Systems center, a NSFoundation Engineering Research Center, the Center for Interactive Smart Oilfield Technologies, the Tsunami Research Center, Center for Robotics and Embedded Systems, Keck Center for Photonic Technology, USC Stevens Institute for Innovation and the Combustion Physics Laboratory.

The U.S. Dept. of Energy recently awarded a 5 year grant to establish an Energy Frontier Research Center at SC.
