Hey, I got accepted to IU in October and I applied to a few learning communities right away without looking into it alot. I applied to Collins as my first choice thinking it seemed cool. However I have talked to a few people and they refered to as a really quiet dorm, and some said it is like a "vegetarian hippie dorm." This is not what I want, and a freshman dorm is very important to me. Can any current students at IU tell me what Collins is actually like? And where is a good place to live on campus for freshmen?

In my opinion, there's a lot of "unique" people living at Collins- sort of hippie, fun-loving, and quirky folk who are more into the arts and humanities or something than mathematics/science. For ex. they perform songs about sex, create groups such as a dignified gentlemens club, join a medieval club, or something. There are such people living in other dorms but there seems to be a large concentration of them living in Collins. There are alot of upperclassmen living there as well. Of course, you also see other people with alot of different interests so it's not all "hippie."
A good place on campus depends on your interests and major. You'd probably want to live in a neighborhood close to buildings that your classes are in. There are alot of threads about housing at IU so you can search them on the forum but I'll provide a brief summary. The dorms in the Northwest Neighborhood (Briscoe, Collins LLC, Foster and McNutt) is closer to the business schools and are known for their partying and drinking. I don't know about Collins and not everyone drinks so over there so... The Central Neighborhood (Ashton, Eigenmann, Teter and Wright) is pretty good. If you're science/math oriented, classes may be a little far. And the Southeast Neighborhood (Forest, Read, Wilkie) is close to the music school and pretty close to the science/math buildings so you have a good number of nice music students living there.

which are the nerdiest dorms? I like them better because I like it quiet when I study, and my sister is in another school on the mpost "active" dorm, she is having a hard time with quiet. I am personally not a nerd, but I don't like the noisiest hard-core dorms. any input?

Just ask for a single. I forgot what it was, but there's an entire place with all singles that's supposedly anti-social. Again, run a search.

Sounds like the Residence Scholars Community, which is located in the Ashton dorms of the Central Neighborhood. The rooms are all singles, and there are academic and work requirements to get in (see the link) and it is pretty inexpensive compared to other single rooms.

I don't want an antisocial dorm, or single either, I am just looking for quiet-er
any doubles or triples that meet that requirement?
