Collins Living-Learning Center --what's it like?

I heard that this Dorm tends to have a lot of vegetarian/vegans in the art and science college. Is that true?

And also, what's it like and is it a party dorm?

Disclaimer First: I don’t know anyone that lives in Collins, and my ds has never mentioned it.

That said, as my ds is a sophomore at IU I did spend a lot of time talking to people about dorms before he picked. I though Collins looked really cool and interesting–and I think it is that–but it also seems to have a reputation of being favored by pot smokers. Nobody ever referred to it as a “party” dorm. It was more that as you wandered the halls you’d smell it on a regular basis. I will say that this person hasn’t lived there the past two years, so it’s possible this has changed. Hopefully somebody who lives there now will respond.

Long time ago I lived at Collins. My D chose an honors floor at Teter for her freshman year. She would say that Collins is more of a bohemian type place. I liked it because it resembles housing that you would find at Yale or Duke. Very gothic architecture. The room I was in one year had leaded bay windows that look out on the quad. The location cannot be beat. They publish their own newsletter and have formed an alumni databank.

collins is interesting just because of the fact that lots of people who like it never leave. A lot of juniors and seniors live in college many who would be deemed as “weird”. People wearing capes and dressing up alot. I know some people from Collins and there are some pretty cool people

I never lived in Collins, but I always wished I did. It had such a great community feel… at a huge school, you’re part of something really quickly. You have lots of opportunities for leadership that other students don’t get, which can be great for your resume. Even though Collins has the reputation of being for art kids, you can feel comfortable there if you’re studying other things. Collins is filled with traditions, and if you’re looking to be part of something like that, sign up.

Also, if you live there past your first year you can get one of this big, unique rooms and Collins has the best dining hall on campus.
