Colorado School of Mines Admission Decisions 2024

I don’t think I saw a thread yet about class of 2024 admission decisions, so here goes. My S20’s portal was updated today. Anyone else?

Accepted!

Applied 10/19/19
Accepted 11/22/19
ACT 36
SAT 1600
GPA: 3.92 UW, 4.49 W
OOS
Major: Computer Science

$12,000 Merit Scholarship

He’s got quite a few to hear back from next month, but this was a nice one to get, especially because I didn’t think we’d be hearing until the first of the year!

Congrats!

DD just got her acceptance today as well. Her stats:

Applied 10/02/19
Accepted 11/22/19
ACT 33
GPA: 3.98 UW, 4.18 W
OOS
Major: MechE

$12,000 Merit Scholarship

did your kiddos get emails about it? or just look on their portals?

Mine said he got a text from them to check his portal.

12K merit
Female
Math and Chemistry
1520 SAT
3.79/4.67 GPA

14K merit
Female
Environmental Engineering
1360 SAT
4.0 UW
5.17/5.0 weighted
OOS

Seems like UW gpa is more important than SAT?

Do any of you know who your assigned admissions counselor was? On the applicant portal it lists who it is, but not sure if it still shows once you are accepted? My daughter has noticed her listed admissions counselor change three times and we are trying to figure out what that means, if anything. Curious if anyone who has been accepted, or those still waiting to be accepted, have experienced the same thing??

Interesting. The counselor listed has not changed since her application was submitted.

@VickiSoCal I’m thinking the same thing. I posted my daughter’s info so folks could see there’s some sort of difference. Granted my daughter has good ec’s, essay, excellent resume with work experience, is top 6%, etc. But, I think the difference in the merit award amount probably comes down to the 4.0 unweighted gpa, which is sort of crazy. We also speculated maybe it is a directed effort at recruitment in certain areas as we have seen U of Louisville do for Dallas area (we are not Dallas area unfortunately for that one) or something due to major selection. ??‍♀️

@Goboise Do you mind sharing who the counselor is/ was?

@Goboise Sorry…didn’t mean the name of the counselor but the territory you are in? Wondering if there is a shift in who is covering which territory and that caused the changes?? Just scratching our heads here

My daughters counselor also changed several times.
Unweighted 4.0 is extremely rare at our high school. My daughter has six AP 5’s and two 4’s and didn’t get As in several of those classes. Hurts at schools that use UW.

I have twins. The girl twin has a different counselor and has been admitted. The boy twin has not heard a thing.

@Lucky4me2be Any word for your son? Anyone else get a recent decision? My daughter applied 10/15 and we haven’t heard anything from the school and have no portal changes. We are in state.

@momof3co We are OOS but haven’t heard a thing . My daughter applied via golden ticket on 11/1 I think .

My son received an email 10/30 that his application was complete and ready for review. We have yet to hear anything yet decision wise. He applied through the golden application process.

On the portal this morning there was an invitation to apply for the Thorson Honors program. Not sure if this is sent out to everyone who has applied or if this is a precursor to them updating his Application portal page? It looks like you can’t apply until you commit to Mines. Though I could be wrong about that.
No email or anything. Only noticed because he logged in to check his status this morning.

co2mom — my kid applied about that same time OOS; just got an email with notification of acceptance, and the honors invitation is showing on his portal.

Same as most of the above with merit: $12K. (34ACT & 3.95 UW. )

@bgbg4us Congratulations to your kid!! That’s great news. Thanks for the update; I guess we’ll just keep checking email and the portal.
@co2mom My D does not have the honors link in her portal, but she qualifies for honors at other colleges, so maybe this is good news for your son.

My son got an email with his acceptance notice a bit after lunch.

I’m very excited and happy for him. He worked really hard this last four years like I assume all of our kids have for this.

Congrats To all who got excepted.

As a sidenote:
If you or your child gets declined, I Know of at least a few students in the past few years who have gotten in after they appeal the decision. So if this is where you or your child really wants to go, keep trying it could still happen.
