Whatsup guys! this is the deal i'm trying to get into columbia as my first choice these are my stats

3.5 gpa
29 on act
4 on ap
i'm a licensed pilot
I've worked for numerous aviation businesses
I've won state kayaking competitions
i'm in numerous community service groups
my dad and his dad who became a famous doctor went to columbia
i'm a lifeguard
i'm currently in a vigerous multi engine commercial pilot course and will be a commercial pilot before i graduate

Do i have a good chance??? also. any colleges that would look at me well because of my aviation acomplishments?

Normally I would say your chances are slim due to GPA and ACT score, but seeing as how you have great legacy and seem to have passionate accomplishments, I’d say write a good essay and you’ll have a shot

Did your father and grandfather go to Columbia Medical school or the undergraduate college (College or SEAS)? If they went to the medical school, then you will NOT receive the legacy boost.

I disagree with Indianboy1. Yes, you have a great legacy connection with a nice EC passion, but academically you are very weak for Columbia. It’s going to hurt you a lot.

I actually don’t think the low GPA and act is that bad. Sure, you’d be better off if they were higher, but you have a unique application right here. Not only are you legacy, but between working for aviation companies, kayaking, community service, and most importantly the vigorous course you are taking to become a licensed commercial pilot, you have an incredibly strong application. I think your EC’s easily justify the lower GPA and ACT.
