Columbia and Sciences Po Dual Degree Program

my interview is over skype tomorrow…im so nervous, idk what to expect!!

@camille salut ! I am French but living abroad and have not heard anything from them either… Until now I only received my columbia ID. No interview request, no anything, which makes me sort of lose hope.
Et toi ?

Did any non-american applicant receive interview request?

Thank God we don’t need to send our SAT scores- otherwise, my application would be directly thrown away by the adcom!

@Terpischoria, I actually was in touch with someone from Columbia since I had some problems concerning my transcripts. But I have had my CUID and they have everything required for my application.

When I heard of the dual BA, I did not think I could apply to it (because of its price), but now that I did it and that I spent so many hours working on my essays and having everything work out, I would be sooo disappointed if I didn’t get at least an interview…
Even though I’m starting to lose hope, I guess we’ll just have to wait a couple of weeks!

So which campus did you choose at Sciences Po ?

@terpischoria I know of a student from China who has received an interview. I also received one on the 8th of March (it’s scheduled to be on the 14th) and I’m from Sydney, Australia. Mm I don’t know when their deadline for sending out the interview invitation emails is, but maybe you should just wait and see a little while longer? :)

@camilleloth Same here! I have spent many hours on the whole process and hoped that at least I could get an interview.

HOWEVER I read from an earlier post in this thread that not getting an interview request does not mean that the applicant is automatically rejected. Apparently it’s different this year.

I applied to Le Havre, how about you?

edit
@jojoshenna
Okay, thanks for your answer! Good luck for your interview!
Sure! :)

@terpischoria Thank you! Fingers crossed for your interview offer :)

@terpischoria I applied to Le Havre too! My dream is to learn Hindi and go then to India.
I found out yesterday a webcast of session of information that had been recorded last year concerning the dual BA and they really said that evey student that could be admitted was to pass an interview. I hope you’re right by saying it does not mean anything.
Let’s hope we were too good and they decided that we did not need to pass through the interview process ;)

@camilleloth, do you have a link for that webcast with that information? My daughter is literally in the next room doing her interview via skype right now and they told her that today was the last day that interviews were scheduled.

However, jmommy, based on your daughter’s profile, I would agree that she is an excellent candidate and perhaps it is true that they only are interviewing candidates for whom they have questions or concerns this year and that candidates that were more clear cut clear acceptances will simply receive an acceptance email without having to interview?

Honestly, after a certain point, the way that these colleges make their decisions between so many wonderful students remains a mystery and almost seems like a lottery. I remain hopeful that in the end, my daughter will be accepted into a few schools/programs and that she will have some good (if not difficult!) choices to make.

Also, would your daughter consider the 3 year SciencesPo program as an alternative? On a certain level, that is almost more appealing to my daughter. She then feels that she can get going on her post-grad specialization sooner, perhaps back in the US. I would imagine that most candidates not accepted into the dual program will be offered that option.

I look forward to hearing what everyone decides in the end.

@Rhiannon78 here is the link : [Columbia University](Columbia University)
The fact that apparently today was the last day is definitively a bad news. Now I can be sad. But thank you for the info!

Thank you camilleloth! It will be interesting to learn if all accepted applicants were asked interview or not in the end.

Regarding the interview process, I want to report that unlike another poster earlier in this thread reported (ovalspud?), my daughter said that the interview process today was very intense, not relaxed at all, and she is pretty composed and well-spoken, used to oral exams from the IB program, so that must mean it was hard! They really grilled her on what she had written about in her essay: experiences in Italy, both about the school as well as the political system there(!). They asked her if she was following the primaries here in the US, what media she uses to get her info, how the US system compares to Italy’s, etc etc. They asked her how she would feel about going to school in France given that her primary experiences are Italian and US based and how she would contribute to the program. She felt she really had to be on her toes and thankfully could draw from her experiences and felt she gave reasonable responses, but she really has no idea how it went.

They told her that she would know by March 28. All best wishes to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I will report back to know if she get accepted into the program or not, and if she decides to go based on her other acceptances elsewhere.

Sorry for anyone who did not receive an interview, but I got an email yesterday explaining that an interview is a REQUIRED part of the admissions process in order for a final decision.

(I withdrew my application, but I received a reminder email regardless telling me that it’s my last chance to set up an interview!)

For anyone else who did interview, how did it go? What kind of questions were asked?

I had my interview back in December. I actually was able to get the head guy in the area to interview me, which was especially nice because most people were interviewed on a Super Saturday Session where they were all just given a time and 30 minutes with an alumni who had been interviewing all day. I wonder if I received the better interview because Columbia reached out to me, and I blew them off until November. I then realized that I would only have to major because they had my double major offered as a major!

Anyways, my interview went really well. It was 1.5 hours. They ask you why you are a good match for Columbia, and the basic questions like something you regret, stuff on your resume etc. The big one for me was what was similar about all the colleges you applied to, and stuff like that. For me that was no big deal since all my schools are east coast and my major isn’t offered many places, but he told me he really liked my answer and that the most common answer he gets that he hates is the “it’s a top university and I applied to the top so and so number of schools and whichever one is the highest is the one I’m going to…” Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply clf927, but based on your answer, I am assuming that you are referring to Columbia, not the dual BA program they have with SciencesPo in France? They did not begin interviewing for that program until this month-applications weren’t due until Jan. 1 and most folks interviewed via phone or skype unless they were in NYC.

Whoops, sorry. I get mixed up between all the different threads.

For those who receive an answer, could you please post a message to tell us when you did, and if you did get in or not ?
Thanks !

Hmm, I was wondering… In case of rejection, I had asked to be considered for Columbia and Sciences Po separately. Which one would I be considered to? Columbia College or Columbia School of GS?

I guess you would be considered for Columbia College. Columbia School of GS is only for students who do not follow a regular curriculum.

Thanks for your answers… I sent them an email asking for a clarification. I’ll come back to you guys when I get an answer.

I recently received an email from SP confirming my application to SP separately, so I’m assuming I didn’t get in the dual BA. I’m fine with that now, getting accepted to either SP or Columbia would already be great for me!

Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing from those who got in :)

Oh my god, the waiting is literally killing me. I haven’t gotten an interview - but I think I’m the only student that’s applied from my country. I wonder if that would make a difference? I’d assumed I had fairly strong credentials, but I’m guessing not, now?

On the Facebook page they confirmed sending out results on April 1 via post, so would they seriously let all the accepted students know by March 28th? I’d really like to know the decisions timeline, purely because then I could call and find out my decision, it’ll take a week or two minimum to reach me by snail mail.
