Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

According to my little research, Columbia releases ED results on the second Thursday of December… That means 12/10 is probably when we hear back from them!

My interview also went quite well. I imagine not many people screw these things up, anyway. Maybe I earned some brownie points by driving 2 hours to have the interview immediately after getting the email :-?

Now all I can do is hope.
2.5 weeks.

Hello fellow ED applicants! One question here.

I just received an email from U of Michigan today saying that I didn’t finish my Application before the deadline (Nov 1st) so I was put into the RD pool. I submitted everything four days before the deadline and they received the CommonApp on 11/03, and thus told me that I did not meet the deadline of 11/01.

Is that likely to happen with Columbia? I’m just worried, as I haven’t heard anything back from Columbia. As I live in New Zealand, there is a high possibility that I’m not getting an interview. Plus, no one else I know from my area is applying to Columbia, so I wouldn’t know if others have got an interview or not.

I checked the portal, and they received my CommonApp 11/04. Will they still consider me as an early applicant? Or will they consider me as not meeting the deadline?

Is there anyone who has heard from Columbia/received an interview offer who also has their CommonApp stuff received later than 11/04 on the portal? Any replies will be highly appreciated! Thanks!!!

lovemjrnas: did you receive an email assigning you a Columbia id number? If so, you can check the completeness of your application on the application status page.

We encourage you to track the completeness of your application by visiting your application status page. You may check your status online between November 9, 2015 and November 30, 2015.

If this is the first-time you have submitted an application to the Columbia Undergraduate Admissions Office, you will first need to create an account in order to access your tracking information.

If you previously created an account with the Columbia Undergraduate Admissions Office, please use the same log-in credentials you created at that time. If you have any difficulty logging into your application status page, simply reset your password. There is no need for you to create a new account.

Your application will not be considered complete until all required materials have been received.

@AngelaW98 I did receive this email. But the date they receive my writing supplement on 11/04. Does that mean my application was not completed before 11/01, and I did not meet the deadline? Btw, I also was able to log in the application status page for Michigan, but they told me my app was not completed anyways :frowning:

@lovemjrnas I believe that Columbia also received my writing supplement on the 4th. It takes time for the servers to download everything from the Common App, especially right after the 11/1 deadline. As long as it says that your application is for Early Decision at the top when you log into your portal, you should be fine. Also, right above the checklist, it should say the day that your application was submitted. If it is on or before 11/1, you will still be counted as an ED applicant.

@lovemjrnas Is the Application Submitted Date before 11/01 and you see green checks on the status column? If so, you are fine. If you see any red crosses, then there might be problems.

I applied for Columbia, but I didn’t get an interview scheduled and everyone who applied Ed in my school is talking about interviews. Is this a good or bad sign, since I did hear that interviews are usually just to clarify things on an app?

Thank you @AngelaW98 and @allista . It was submitted on 10/31, and I only see green ticks on the screen. Phewwwwww! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

@Pinguman123 I haven’t been contacted for an interview either. One of my friends got into columbia without an interview two years ago, so I’m trying to maintain my optimism.

I live in Italy. Does Columbia interview students abroad?

I was wondering the same thing too. I am currently studying abroad in Russia for the year and really wanted an interview…

@frspzz @liseej126 They do. One of my classmates in Korea was scheduled an interview. Depends on the alumni available in your country though.

hi guys! for the writing supplement where it asked to list your favorite books, did you guys just list or add a little description too? i added a little description with each book title, but a friend said that the readers might be irritated because the directions said to list

@qwertycarnitas I just listed. I’ve heard it’s best to exactly follow their directions, but I’m sure it’s not a huge deal that you added a description.

@qwertycarnitas I just added a little link (if applicable) and the author.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how many early decision applications Columbia received this year?

DoubleD11, the ED acceptance rate for Columbia is a little less than 20%, the website said 3373 students applied ED last year, so they accepted approximately 600 students ED.

@JungleJim4232 Do you know how many of the 600 accepted were development, recruited athletes, and legacies, etc…?

No idea, unfortunately for everyone (myself included) not recruited or part of a legacy, etc. I’m guessing it was a lot…
