Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

@cindytufts Are you an ED applicant?

@crystallemon yes!!

i was just checking my common app on the ferpa/recommenders tab and i noticed my parent ed agreement was never downloaded by columbia…is this something that other people have noticed too?

@nutellapikachu I haven’t noticed but I also had problems with the ed agreement. When you checked to see if Columbia had all your documents was there a green checkmark next to parent ed agreement? Because if there was then you’re good.

@ro8271 i didn’t specifically check for parent ed agreement but i had all green checkmarks?

@nutellapikachu If everything had a green check mark then you’re a-okay. :slight_smile:

@ro8271 thanks! that really helped my anxiety :slight_smile:

Alright, I have a WILD speculation about this email shenanigan. Maybe they are sending out emails because some of the applicants are deferred so they want to retain their interests so that those applicants don’t withdraw their apps? Again, this is my extremely WILD guess and I hope it’s not true. Well, if my guess is true, then I’m either denied or accepted. :slight_smile: Best luck to y’all!
Also, I talked to an international applicant and she seems to have received a different version of the promotional email. It mentions housing in Manhattan and safety issues in Harlem?

@nutellapikachu No problem. We all have to support each other during this time of crippling anxiety and fear. Best of luck!

Ayyyy almost 6 days to go.

Is ANYONE’S parent ed agreement downloaded? Regardless I highly doubt it means much… They couldn’t let something so obvious indicate admission status. Plus, my counselor ED agreement was downloaded and that basically serves the same purpose.

I haven’t been getting any of these emails, so while we’re on the topic of wild speculation, maybe people like me who didn’t get all these emails have been thoroughly rejected so there’s no need to send more marketing emails? I doubt they’d indicate someone’s admission status via volume/type, though it is weird how not everyone gets the same emails.

@dr0wning very true! but I’m just curious why would they send emails to those accepted if they have to go there because of the ED agreement.

You may very well be right (I haven’t gotten the emails either). I’m just putting the idea out there. Unfortunately it will take another 5 days to clear up the speculations.

Are we required to send in first trimester/semester senior year grades immediately once they come out before decisions are due? would not sending those grades impact my application even though I have all green checkmarks on tracking my app?

@BrynMawr61 I have to admit that I’m kind of comforted that you haven’t gotten any emails either, since it seemed like everyone else got those emails. I mean, if I’m not the only one, it can’t be that bad, right? Right…? Only time can tell! (5 days, it’s so close!)

@ThePedestrian I’m not completely sure, but I think that trimester/semester grades do not need to be sent in. Though they do request a midyear report, I think?

Was QuestBridge finalist but didn’t get matched so now I’ve been moved to ED!

It does actually seem likely that the international students who got that email from the ‘Director of International Admissions and Strategic Initiatives’ are going to be deferred (I’m included in this hypothetical). The first email I got from Columbia was about a month before the ED deadline, and this one came almost a month before the RD deadline.

This is depressing. :confused:

@TrazCapDEV Interesting speculation. It could also be a promotional email sent to those on a mailing list from a school, testing agency, etc…
Still super nervous about it though…

Hey guys, I’m applying to Columbia engineering RD, just thought I’d introduce myself :x
Good luck all!
