Columbia Class of 2020 RD Thread

FAIL Columbia!

Rejected with a 36 ACT, Top 1% rank. State U for me!

Any international who got waitlisted?

@mattyhan Not sure what you’ve mentioned in the letter, but I would mention any major achievements, possibly if you had midterms and did really well, things you plan on doing, mention how interested you are in the university and if you are accepted it is your #1 choice and will go (these are all things my counsellor told me and she used to be in admissions in Cornell). Hope this helps!

@Learner12388 I am an international, UK. Waitlisted.

Rejected. Not surprised @ all.

for those waitlisted, were there any acceptances at your schools? no one got into columbia this year from our school…we typically send 1-2…

Everyone else that applied from my school was rejected. The waitlist numbers seem too high from what I’ve seen on here.

International student, accepted!!! I was rejected at all other ivies

Me and another girl at my school who got into three other Ivies are the first in my school’s history to be accepted into Columbia.
Fun! She’s probably going to Harvard. Meaning I hold the title of first to attend if I go. Inspiration for future gens and all that.

Columbia is asking for citizenship documentation in order to give me aid. Do you guys know how I can submit this?

Hey does anyone know when/if Columbia will send paper acceptance letters to admitted students (just curious) ?

@curioussy Hahah same… International that applied to 5 ivies, and only got into Columbia. I’m definitely NOT complaining though!

Congrats everyone! I was admitted to the Class of 2020 too. I have a question about the Core. For someone who is interested in humanities, arts and the social sciences, how heavy is the science/math portion of the core? I’m not too crazy about heavy applied science. Would I have to take a large portion of math and science courses?

@EarlyAction2020 Hi there! In your freshman year, you’re required to take a science class called Frontiers of Science, which exposes you to the newest innovations within the scientific field. I’ve heard it described as “science for cocktail parties.” Beyond that, you’re required to take several additional courses in science. Many humanities student fulfil this requirement through fun astronomy and paleobiology (dinosaurs!!) classes. I don’t believe math is required in the Core, however you might have to take it depending on the co-requisites of whatever science classes you take.
