Columbia College Class of 2011!~!~! wHO'S applying?

Hey it never hurts to start early.

Only 5 months left before early apps are due. So which one of ya's are applying? I have a feeling 2011 is going to be the MOST competitive year in college admissions and it's going to go down after this year. From my own school my grade is by far the most talented. So ionno guys... Columbia Acceptance sub - 8%? -_-'

If you're going to apply early-->

SAT scores: 2350
Rank: n/a
GPA: 3.91~(uw)
State: NJ. Bergen County. <--- blah.

I might apply early, I'm not sure yet. If I apply ED anywhere, it will be Columbia. Anyway:
SAT: 2390
Rank: n/a
GPA: If I calculated correctly and assuming my predictions for this year are correct, I think unweighted is around 3.95. Weighted is 4.38. (Is it 4.0 for an A and 3.67 for A-?)
State: NJ

SAT: 2240
Rank: Top 5%
GPA: 97%
State: New York

Applying RD:

SAT: 2300
Rank: Top 1%
GPA: A/A+
State: Arizona

2320
Rank: Top 35%
GPA: 3.6
State: Not east coast

I'll have SAT scores July 1 (and I just took the ACT today, but I took it when I was 13 and got a 29, so I'm hoping for an improvement - predicting 32?)
Rank: Top 5%
GPA: Weighted a little over 4.0, unweighted...I think it's something like 3.7-8
State: Minnesota

Probably regular...

SAT: 2360
Rank: Top 1-2% (my school doesn't rank)
GPA: 3.99 currently unweighted, probably 3.97 by the end of this year?
State: MA

im sorry to sound ignorant but whats weighted and unweighted GPA?? PS is the final grade GPA the sum of all the GPAs of the 4 quarters or simply the GPA of your final grade?

In my school, AP and honors classes are weighted at 1.1. So if you get an A, that class is calculated into your GPA as 4.4. Unweighted is a re-calculation with A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.4 ... and so on.

Wow. My SAT score is looking pretty bad right now.

SAT: 2180 (790 Math, 700 Writing, 690 Verbal)
GPA (weighted): 5.0
GPA (unweighted): 3.94
location: North Carolina

I was considering early decision, but I guess I should take the SAT again befoer that. And SAT IIs, I haven't done any of those yet.

At my school, weighted GPA means for an AP class, an A is 6 points, for honors it's 5 points, and for normal it's 4 points. I've taken 5 AP classes so far, I'm doing 4 or 5 more next year.

ooh i get it now :p....thanks!!

Wow seriously...5.0 GPA hehe ....this senior year my school has 5 AP classes...but i was wondering since you have taken 5 already...is it too hard to handle ...is it better to take only 3 or something?...

i havent taken any SAT lls and i feel like im behind... :s...is it ok if i take them all three this same year? i mean is there enough time?...

another thing...you know AP test scores come until may...and your aplication is sent before that...so you dont need to include that or send it later?

schmivy, do'n't feel bad...

i'm applying- just because i think New York is one of the coolest places ever...

SAT: 2160
(i did take it again, though...cross your fingers)
GPA: unweighted ~3.9/4.0
RANK: 4/322
location: Indiana

Well, we take 6 classes a year, and i wasn't the only one to take 5 APs (my sixth class was honors german 4). It got kinda hellish around midterms and finals, and when all my teachers decided to schedule tests/papers at the same time....and, y'know, those first three weeks of May kind of sucked (three, 'cause I had to take an exam late). I wouldn't recommend taking 5 at once. I'm only taking 4 next year.

And I'm just now registering for SAT IIs. I'm disappointed. One of the ones I want to take isn't offered the day I'm registering to take them.

oh i see---thanks for the recommendation...ill probably take 3 or 4 too....

well you can always take that last one later right?:) hey you can only take one SAT ll at a time or not??

I might apply regular decision.

You can take up to three in one day. I'm taking two. But I think that the first testing date for the fall is still too late for my scores to be ready by the time ED stuff is due.

No, the October test date will be okay for ED, the results come on like November 4, so the college will accommodate for that.

I think November works too, but I'm not positive.

How many does Columbia require? Two or three?

If the November test works then I can still do ED if it's three. And that would be excellent.

Two for the college. For Fu, I think it might be 3.

Yeah, I just found that.

And even if I decide I want to do engineering all of a sudden instead of chemistry, then I signed up for ones that will allow for that. That's so excellent. I can apply ED now!
