So am I completely screwed if I didn't get a likely letter from Columbia College? Seems like everyone else got one but me... How many do they send out?! Why would they choose to give them to certain people (only two weeks ahead of regular decisions) over everyone else they plan on admitting?!

They send out like 200. Don’t worry, most kids don’t get them anyway.

I got a likely letter on the 17th of March(Yes, weird timing.)
But skimming through the forums in here, it seems Columbia College doesn’t send much, it’s SEAS that sends more likely letter maybe?
And, as far as my school is concerned(internationals needing financial aid), 4 people applied to Columbia College, and only I got one. All of them are strong applicants.

where are u from undergraduate ?

I got a likely letter as well. I don’t think it would hurt your chances if you didn’t get one, though…

The vast majority of accepted students don’t get likely letters. Don’t let it worry you.

I can’t believe that people are still asking this question, but it’s the vast majority that DON’T get likely letters. I did get one on the 17th as well, to the College…and I agree that SEAS seems to send more.

This might sound arrogant coming from me, but usually likely letters are sent so that the strongly qualified applicants (that they would like very much to have and are likely to be accepted to other Ivies/Stanford/MIT) have a good impression of the college, and that their eagerness will somehow affect where to enroll come May 1.

Okay. most of the people accepted will NOT receive likelies, but they got in alright.
It just shows that you are not among the most qualified, but there is a good chance that YOU ARE QUALIFIED> so stop freaking out,
