I might be asking this for a second time, but… whatever… do you think waiting longer means less chances of admission? I mean, if they wanted to admit us, they would already have done so; on the contrary, if they did not want us, they would already have rejected us, right? Totally confused…

I’m still waiting for my admissions reply. I had my app completed may 8th. Does anyone know how exactly they send out application decisions? I’m in China for the summer, so I’m hoping I receive an email… Urghh! the wait is making me crazy!

I’m not banking on getting in… I’m only 19. I think that will hinder me a lot. Hopefully some very old people apply…

You sound a little too young to be applying to GS. Perhaps you should have applied to Columbia College instead, but it’s too late now. Just wait and see what happens. There is no email notification for your acceptance, only overnight shipping for an acceptance package and SOMETIMES a phone call (I only received a package). I’m 23, so I’ll be 27 by the time I graduate. 31 by the time I finish medical school. Yeah, you’re definitely a little young for applying to GS.

I applied May 6, but one of my transcripts still hasn’t been logged as received. It was mailed to Columbia on May 23. I’m sure they’re so bogged down in paperwork right now. I hope it gets reviewed soon, though!

Hey guys, do you think being youngER will be lookd at as a sort of disadvantage? I am turning 21 this July, and I do not knooowww how come that would be adisadvanatge???

I do not think so. I am 21, but was accepted, and so did many younger students. Columbia University clearly says that they do not discriminate applicants based on their age.

[COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY AND STUDENT NONDISCRIMINATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ON DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT](<a href=“Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs | Office of the Provost”>Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs | Office of the Provost)
“Columbia University does not discriminate against any person in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other University-administered programs or permit the harassment of any student or applicant on the basis of race, color, sex, gender (including gender identity and expression), pregnancy, religion, creed, marital status, partnership status, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, military status, or any other legally protected status.”

In my understanding, majority of the people at the early 20s do not have non-traditional life-stories that meets GS admissions policy. That is probably the sole reason that raises the students’ age average. Age does not matter, but experience does.

Yeah. I have to clarify what I said. I agree with eugeneor. Life experience is the winner. It’s just a common correlation that lower age = less life experience, but that’s not always true. There are always people with lives out there that have caused them to learn those life lessons and gain maturity sooner than other members of their peer group.

Zhaozhao, I do not think so… I had to have a decision BY June 15 for a government scholarship and that is it-- that is why they tried to notify me as soon as they could. I called to find out if they would tell me at least on Monday and the woman called the Director of Admissions and told me I am accepted and they will send an email and a package next week.

it just this is been way too long. and I have no idea what’s taking so long.
I am just puzzled here, and want to know what’s holding back my application.
and yet I will call next monday.

but happy for you, all this wait is worth it if it’s good news.

I do not think waiting longer means anything, I also waited for so long! And I guess many have waited long this year, so do not worry!!!
Best of luck!!!

Zhaz… you are not alone. I still didnt hear back and Sally c too. I got in to other great schools so I’m sure they are just taking to long. Don’t worry we will get in :)
