@alexbcn In general, 20% get accepted, 20% get deferred, and 60% get rejected.
If you’re looking for exacts, I’d estimate the ED admit rate will be about 18.9% this year.

no way, I’m from central Jersey too! Do you know where Great Adventure is? cause I live like 5 minutes from there.

I play Bassoon, and Oboe, and Clarinet, and Trumpet, and Mellophone… haha

@satman1111 i’m about an hour from six flags; we go there for physics day!
WOAH that’s a lot of instruments!
@meredithwalsh hello!
@siemprell Congrats! what do u play?

Hi Folks,
Does anyone out there participate in Columbia’s SHP program? Does anyone know how much (if any) of an edge it gives you in the application process? I am hoping it helps (a little!)

@pokemonwhite I went to a different Columbia summer school program called High School Visiting Students Program to experience Columbia basically. I don’t think it gives us any edge regarding admission.

@everybodytalkingaboutmusic Unfortunately, I am not from Jersey… or anywhere near that. xD Texas, represent! And I play tenor sax. Classical isn’t exactly my thing, but my directors make me do this every year because… well, I’m the best they’ve got. I wasn’t far off last year, so hopes are high this year!

This isn’t a summer school program. SHP offers a 2.5 hr class on their campus Sat. mornings for 26 wks during the school year. Classes are in Math and Science college level courses. You have to try out for the program and take a written test, send in transcripts, teacher recs, etc . Only a certain percentage of the kids who apply are selected for SHP. Once you are in, you can remain in until you graduate. I tried out in 9th grade but didn’t make it. I tried out again in 10th grade and was accepted.

Hi everyone! I’m from Ohio and I play other people’s emotions!
Ha, kidding. Though Columbia is really screwing with my nerves right now.

Wow, 60% reject rate sounds ugly but realistic, I like to think of it this way. Last year, I think at least 600 students were accepted ED! That’s actually a lot of people! POSITIVITY (while it lasts, anyway)

I wrote a haiku :)

Time ticking slowly
Soon we will know our fate
I am terrified

While we wait our imminent fate, anybody excited for the World Cup? The US got screwed over, but all in all, I think that it’ll be a good tournament.

@lee Yes I totally am!!! Besides, by the time the World Cup comes around we’ll all be chill and relaxed because it will be - wait for it- SUMMER!!!

But yes, the US is totally screwed… let’s hope the match with Ghana isn’t a repeat of 2010

I think the US has a chance! Portugal has been out of form and the US can totally beat Ghana with their recent improvements. Somebody just needs to break Ronaldo’s leg or something.

You guys don’t know how stoked I was for the World Cup draw…
and then we got one of the hardest groups.

We being Germany. Because that’s my homeland originally. My household is probably gonna be split though.

But if I get into Columbia, I would be so happy that I would invite all of my potential roomies to come and watch the World Cup with me at my place like every day.

I’m kinda hoping that this World Cup has a huge upset… like South Korea or the Ivory Coast making top 8

Was watching reruns of the TV show “Community”

“Why were you disbarred? I thought you got your law degree from Columbia?”
“Yeah, now I need to get one from America.”

Ah, just trying to keep it light. Less than three days =/

@Stoness OMG I love Community!!! Ah, Jeff A new season drops January 4th, I’m beyond excited!!

And I’ve actually been accepted to Greendale - if you visit their website its an automatic acceptance haha

Jersey’s region auditions are Saturday. I should know, first time doing them So I’ve got this on Thursday and ba-ba-ba-band a couple days later. Combined with a buncha other school stuff, my anxiety level this week is ridiculous.

Honestly, it’s only supposed to snow 4 inches today, there’s no need for school closures throughout the region…

I’m in Jersey btw.

Argh. I’m volunteering currently (polio). Very hard to focus on both college and volunteering.

Ambirkel, I live in Virginia, and 4 inches is considered a snowpocalypse! We had 1 this morning and they called off school. Needless to say I’m cuddled up drinking hot cocoa from a Columbia mug and treasuring the break :)
