Columbia ED Class of 2019

Any other Czechs out there? :)

@dlafklm I don’t think I’ve met any on here so far. I went to the Czech Republic a few years ago. Prague is breathtaking!

@ilovethecity Didn’t think there would be! I think that all in all, there’s only one Czech at CC right now, the other, a friend of mine, just graduated last year. So I’d be very surprised if anyone else from the Czech Rep was applying ED in the first place.

I’m so glad that you liked it here! My dad always says that Prague is like Disneyland for adults… which can be both a blessing and a curse. But even though the city has some faults, I maintain that there’s no better place to be from. :)

Whereabouts are you from?

@dlafklm‌ i live in New York, not in the city, but 45 minutes from Columbia.

@ilovethecity how convenient! I’m kind of jealous—in the good way!

Do you guys know how the admissions decisions will be released/how we can check them? through an online portal, through email, etc.?

@mellvine, it’ll be through an online portal.

Hey guys, I applied ED to Columbia as well, and I thought I’d join this thread. I’m really nervous about the decision, but I’m also really excited. The 11th cannot come quick enough in my mind. Would you guys mind posting some stats from your application? Here’s some background on me:

I’m a guy from a small, but well known prep school in Massachusetts. There are around 120 kids in my class, and about 40 of us are applying early to ivies, but I’m only one of two who applied ED to Columbia. If I get in, a portion of my acceptance will be due to my status as a third generation Mexican legacy. If I don’t get in it’ll most likely be because of my lackluster GPA, which is a bit lower than those of students typically accepted to Columbia. Also, My extracurriculars are strong, but no exceptionally so. Whereas my essays are the strongest points of my application, as they are creative and diverse, but connected by an overarching theme that reflects my passions. I wrote about connecting to an outstanding faculty to take advantage of a structured liberal arts education within a larger research university for my ‘Why Columbia?’ essay, and I listed my intended areas of study as English, Economics and History and I wrote about history for that particular essay.

Good luck to all of you waiting on your acceptance. Hopefully I’ll meet all of you at Morningside Heights next year!

@trirunner96‌ Welcome to the thread! Try not to focus and Netflix :-SS

So if I live in California and admissions come out on 12/11 at 5pm, would that be 2pm pst?

@LeagueOfPeasants‌ Yes.

On another note, does anyone find it odd that Columbia did not release its ED application #s? They did so last year.

Five days to go, and tomorrow it will only be four. Wow…just wow.
@trirunner as per your request, here are some stats!
I come from a really small school (~100 in a graduating class). There are six people total in my grade applying ED to Columbia. There are also thirteen applying to Harvard…lol. I think the best part of my app is my SAT score (above 2350) and the fact that I’m a recruited athlete. I’ve done a lot of science research throughout high school at a few different universities, so I’m hoping that will give me a boost too. For my intended areas of study, I listed biology, environmental sciences, and American Studies, if I’m remembering correctly. As of now, I’m interested in pre-med with a major in Biology, but I’m also a humanities person (I love history), so I might switch to pre-law (even though they’re both ridiculously difficult fields of study), probably with a major in American Studies or History, or maybe even environmental sciences for environmental law.
What are you all interested in studying? :)

@dancella12‌ yep! 11th in my letter too. :slight_smile:
@columbiaxctf‌ i’m interested in music and neuroscience!! but, like you, i also love social studies and i’m taking law as my elective right now, so i’m thinking about pre-law too. good job on your sat ^ ^

@columbiaxctf I plan on double majoring in French & Francophone Studies along with Education (which is a major that belongs to Barnard College, so I’d be taking my classes there). I would also like to concentrate in Sustainability Studies.

@columbiaxctf‌
Wow, 13 to Harvard? That’s a lot. There is a girl at my school who has already been recruited by Harvard for basketball.
At my school, I’m the only ED applicant to Columbia University. 1 person is applying to Yale, 1 to Princeton, and 2 to Stanford. Most people at my school aren’t applying to top schools though.

@columbiaxctf‌ I’m interested in pre-med with a major in chemistry or biology
Also congratulations on your SAT score!! Maybe I’m reading too much into your username, but were you recruited for cross country? Track?

I’m interested in Comp Lit but I’m also considering a path in journalism or law so I listed Political Science as well. I might also switch to Pre-Law, or take a double major in Poli Sci and Econ or History.

I’ll say this: I am a current freshman at Columbia. A member of my class killed himself yesterday. There is a culture of competition that is combative rather than collective and it is suffocating. Think twice before coming here.

My sincerest condolences. The cold weather mixed with the pressure from the finals are finally taking their tolls.

OMG this whole time I thought the date of notification was going to be from December 11 to December 25 so I put “#Columbia ???” on every single page of my school work calendar… Aside from my obvious lateness to this thread, I just wanted to say that I am super nervous you guys ! So, good luck to all of y’all !
