Hello I am applying for Columbia school of GS did you guys get a response and do you have any advice concerning the application
@oatafix Hey did you get the admission result I am also an international student applying for the fall of 2019
@aemnhri Hi, yes, I received it in late April, however I applied before March 1st (early decision). When you’ll receive a decision depends on when you submitted your application. Good luck!
Today I got an email to elaborate more on some personal stories on my application. Has anybody been in the same situation?
@SMSNYAL Same thing happened to me. I wrote about 1000 words total in response across three-ish questions in about two days.
Here are they questions they asked me for reference:
Often we see students take some time away from school and then experience an academic turnaround, but in your case, there isn’t a gap in time between these two schools, although there is a strong difference in record. What’s different now?
Additionally, are there any support services or resources on campus or in New York City that you’d plan to use as a student at Columbia? And given that you are taking mostly professional (accounting) courses now, could you tell us a bit more about your interest in the liberal arts curriculum at Columbia?
And finally, what’s your enrollment plan? Columbia GS students have the opportunity to attend part-time or full-time, and this status can be changed from semester to semester.
@jasennian Thanks for sharing!
I just received my acceptance letter! I am speechless.
Does anyone know whether GS has a waitlist?
Pretty sure I screwed up the interview, got a rejection. Congrats to those that got it.
Moving forward on the rolling basis, do decisions typically come out on Wednesday? Congrats to @coachmatt !!
I think they have a committee meeting on a regular basis, but I’ve seen from previous threads that the decision came out randomly, so it could be any day in my opinion.
Hey Guys!
I was a Spring admit and deferred my admission to fall to get a better financial aid offer. During this period I ended up also being accepted to UC Berkeley and am now having a tough time making my decision. If you guys have any advice I would love to hear it.
More Info on me:
I am a Southern California resident, I am 25 y/o, I am a Political Science Major, I want to attend Law School after obtaining my BA. Thanks!
Congratulations, was rooting for ya!
Congrats on both acceptances; i doubt you’d really be able to go wrong either way, as both are great institutions.
Besides the obvious consideration of comparing the culture, location, and strength of the program for your intended major at each school, i’d lense your future goals against both routes and go from there.
I personally do not know what the implications are of UCB vs CSGS in terms of which looks better/which will give you a leg up in getting accepted into your top choices for law school later on down the road, but if one undergrad institution appears to give a significant advantage over the other in terms of feeding into top tier law schools, consider that before you choose one way or another.
I’d also take the amount of financial aid awarded into great consideration here, especially since you have law school costs to eventually account for on top of your undergrad tuition. CSGS gives mediocre-at-best financial aid to most applicants; if you got an amazing or significantly better financial aid package from UCB and/or are eligible for financial aid from the state of CA for attending an in-state school, that would be a major factor in my decision if I were in your shoes.
If you’re having a hard time deciding between the two because nothing in particular at either University is a must-have or offers you a significant advantage in terms of financial aid and/or law-school applications, I encourage you to do some more digging into the culture of each school and the cities they are located in to see which one would be a better fit for you.
Good luck!
This should entirely come down to money and where you want to work. If you want to work in CA, Berkeley is likely the better choice. Obviously, CSGS would be best if you want to work in NYC.
Law Schools don’t care where you went to undergrad, LSAC reports your GPA from all institutions as one number and it isn’t likely that there is a huge deal of loyalty between undergrad and the associated law school. You should likely pick the school that will get you the easiest high GPA and the most financial aid. Knowing CSGS, that is likely Berkeley but you really can’t go wrong with either pick.
@oatafix how long does it take to get their admission results after submitting the application
@aemnhri
Now that admissions are rolling, the website indicates that decisions will be offered 4-6 weeks after final submission. I emailed the admissions department a few weeks ago and they indicated that they will stick to that timetable
hey guys, does anyone know what happened to “2019-2020 New Student Scholarship Application for Financial Aid”?
there is NO form.
It says “Please note that if you have not yet been assigned a Columbia University ID (CUID), you will not be able to access this form. From the day you submit your application, it takes up to 5 days for your CUID to be created.
Note: This form is not applicable to Postbac Premed students. Postbac Premed Program students should seek information about institutional aid on the Postbac Premed website.”
but I got CUID already, I don’t know what to do…
Anyone register for the July 9th Planning Day?
@gendarme I would call. You don’t want to miss that June 1st deadline. It was available to me, and even now when I return to it, it shows me what I submitted. How long ago did you apply?
@coachmatt I’m in the planning day on May 30th next week. Hope to see some people from here there!
