I am writing to inform you that your application to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and
Applied Science has been evaluated and that you have been designated as a 'likely' candidate for
admission. As long as you maintain good standing in your senior year, you can expect to receive
favorable word when admissions packets are mailed on March 31st.

The Committee on Admissions was impressed with your achievement and interest in engineering and
applied science. You and your family have every right to be proud of your success.

Congratulations on your success to date. Members of the admission office will be in selection
committee until the end of March and our students will be on spring break the week of March 14th.
We hope you will be able to join us on campus for an open house event on the 15th of April to visit
labs and meet with faculty and students.

Do likely letters go out on a rolling basis? And would anyone randomly know whether Columbia tackles the tri-state area first or last in the process?

I wish SHP meant an automatic likely letter and acceptance.

puzzle, why would anyone who applied early get a likely letter? They have only one month of waiting and there's no need to woo anyone who applied for binding early decision. Likely letters are sent out to encourage strong applicants to go there. Early applicants need no encouragement. Plus the early round wait is short so there's less time to make admissions decisions and no need to lessen the pain of the wait for applicants.
