bball, wat makes you want northwestern over uchicago?

Chicago deserves a lot more respect.

for some reason, cornell to northwestern seems like a lateral or even downward move. sorry, if this sounds ignorant, but northwestern doesnt have nearly the rep of cornell (at least it's still ivy league) at least in southern california.

Nope, sorry I don't know anyone who received a rejection on the 2nd. I was merely restating what I thought the original post meant.

an acquaintance from another canadian university was waitlisted apparently... he didnt get an email on june 2nd either. maybe you guys made it to the next round? it seems strange that columbia would not email you if they released you from the waitlist... kinda keeps you hanging there

I'm sure that if they rejected you, they'd contact you. No news is good news.

adriana are you from Canada?

Cornell=Chicago=NU.

People on these boards emphasize graduate school academics WAY too much and ignore things that actually matter like alumni network, # recruiters on campus, grad placement, etc.

juicyfruit: yes, im canadian :) you?

i still have a lot of thinking to do as to where im going... my fin aid package for one school still hasnt arrived and ive decided against stanford... i requested extensions but time's running out...

slipper, U Chicago does better than Cornell, Northwestern, UPenn, JHU, Gtown, a bunch of others on the WSJ feeder list

No. People do not emphasize graduation school education as much as the reputation (which mostly comes from its graduate/post-graduate programs). In general, good reputation/name recognition = high marketability of jobs = more opportunities.

dude. the rest of ivy league material thing was hilarious-bball

and chicago>columbia any day. in my mind, at least. just my 2 cents.

Hah, I'm going from Chicago to Columbia and I couldn't disagree with you more.

Here is Columbia.

And here is Chicago. HTH.

Yeah in no way is Chicago better than Columbia.

bball and others still waiting: for what it's worth, i turned down columbia

Its not that much of a difference. Granted I like Columbia a lot and would go there if I get off the waitlist, but the institutions are very similar academically and I actually think it tips in favor of Chicago as far as that is concerned.

No need to bring xoxo lingo over to CC one big tree - you haven't even been on that board long enough to use it properly. kthx.

meyer -- do i sense a bit of animosity?

hahaha maybe :p

ok, just checking. for better or worse, tone is not adequately conveyed online.

I catch up fast :)
