srsly. Columbia wrecks NYU. NYU is overpriced and full of weirdos. Columbia = better campus, financial aid, and a legit academic reputation.

Urr, I doubt anyone would argue with you on that.

Ditto on that. Only way you know you're on the NYU campus is b/c of the NYU flags sticking out of their bldgs. Amazing how these traditional-- safeties, NYU, BU, GWU, and even WashU-- have become so competitive.

yeah but Stern > Columbia

Some people are rich (or recieved great fin. aid) and like NYU's untraditional campus. NYU has a great rep. Honestly, outside of academia, I doubt anyone would consider NYU and less reputable than Columbia. NYU is actually probably better known. They are totaly dif. schools with the city as their only commonality. Why would you even bother comparing the two?

^Agree. That's like saying "Dartmouth is better than NYU"; they're far too different in many ways for you to be able to definitively say that one is "better" than the other.

And what do you mean by better, anyway? Academically? If so, in what fields? Socially? If so, for whom?

ok... what you stated is pretty obvious... your point?

whats the purpose of this thread??

"NYU is overpriced and full of weirdos."

No weirdos at Columbia??

I actually had this choice and I chose NYU, why? Because for Film and Writing, NYU's programs are considered some of the best in the world... if you want to get a job on Wall Street, NYU's Stern and Columbia grads are pretty close in most recruiter's eyes also..

For the fine arts (Dance, Film, Art), however, it would be foolish not to recoginize that NYU's Tisch is considered the equal or superior to any IVY program in those departments.

Anyone who says Columbia Wrecks NYU as a blanket statement is just being silly.. NYU has certain departments that are ranked higher than many Ivies.. their Philosophy department for example is rated #1 out of the top 50 Philosophy programs in the entire English speaking world.

As far as being overpriced..give me a break..all these schools are overpriced...there is no way that Columbia or any other school is worth over $30K a year to attend...

But as long as we're on the topic, for certain programs, if you would be willing to pay over 30k a year, NYU is as legit a choice as Columbia for the same money...

Here are some facts...

The School of Law is ranked #4 among law schools in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report. The law school is particularly noted as the nation's top law school in tax law, international law, and jurisprudence (philosophy of law).
Two more professor received Guggenheim Fellowships and two more faculty were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences... ]

So yeah, I guess you're right, NYU is overpriced and Columbia isn't, NYU sucks and Columbia rules and oh yeah, NYU is filled with weirdos... Sure, whatever you say, I guess the evidence supports your view, without a doubt,lol...

I, for one, would go to Columbia. But i would never go to NYU. My friends who transferred out of NYU to Penn (I just met another one today) would agree.

Yeah, a lot of kids don't have the maturity and independent spirit to handle the atmosphere at NYU, it's definitely not a comfortable little enclosed campus where everything is handed to you on a silver platter because you aren't ready for the experience of what life will be like in the real world.

If you goto school at NYU, you aren't going to be happy if you aren't the type of person who can go out and get involved, and not be scared to dive right into city life and all the new experiences that entails..it's just too overwhelming and indimidating for many young people.

Hey, everyone is looking for a college experience they are comfortable with, for my money, however, their will never be an experience comparable to getting a top education AND simultaneously immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the most dynamically intellectual and creative city in the world, New York City...

For the right type of student, not much else out there can come close.

^Well said mate. (The part about NYC's role in an individual's growth ..)

NYU > Columbia in the arts

Columbia > NYU in most anything else (but for some programs, like business, it is very close)
