I am in the process of applying to both Barnard and Columbia for transfer from an Ivy League School in the fall....what are the advantages and disadvantages of Columbia over Barnard and Barnard over Columbia?

the advantage is that when you graduate from Columbia, employers won't be like "what the hell is Barnard". only Columbia for you, dear ivy bound girl.
affiliation is only a sales mechanism. plus don't you want to date while in school?

Since my daughter transferred to Barnard last fall, I know quite a bit about it. From what she's told me, Barnard and Columbia are fairly integrated.

Barnard is smaller and offers more personal attention. But they share almost everything with Columbia, including sports teams, clubs, frats/sororities, etc. It's also easy for Barnard students to take nearly all their classes at Columbia if they want. (Although I've heard that more Columbia students take classes at Barnard.) Also, all Barnard students graduate from Columbia University, which is prominently displayed on their diplomas.

Both schools are great. It really just depends on what you're looking for.

Does anyone ever transfer from Barnard to Columbia or vice versa? IF so, why?

I just read a post about a girl going to Barnard and she hates it so much that she doesn't even want to go back next semester. She will though, so she could transfer.
